JOB SUMMARY : The Radio, Television Broadcasting Instructor will provide project-based learning experiences for high school students interested in the field of television and video production. Instructs students in all phases of video/television production including, but not limited to, sound, lighting, and camera operation and maintenance, studio operations, production preparation, broadcast engineering, related computer applications, and specialized applications related to news, sports, and taping. Maintains all equipment provided for use in instructing the Television Broadcasting pathway. Responsible for writing the curriculum to align with the Indiana Department of Education Radio and Television standards as well as dual credit standards with partnering universities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively. Have a minimum five years of experience in the industry. Candidate must be knowledgeable of current broadcasting production procedures. Prefer experience teaching in a high school or career center setting.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Must be eligible for an Indiana Workplace Specialist license in Radio and Television grades 9-12.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES : Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to parents on student achievement and concerns
  • Maintain student records for attendance, grades, discipline, and student certification
  • Plan and deliver pathway curriculum in a highly engaging classroom and studio
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and resources required to meet the objectives of the course
  • Supervise and guide students in an on-campus television broadcasting studio
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment for students
  • Assist students with creating scripts to demonstrate an understanding of the scripting process
  • Apply and adapt on-air techniques to produce a quality program
  • Analyze inventions and technical and social developments that led to the creation of radio and television in a broadcast environment
  • Teach ethical decision-making as it relates to the industry
  • Organize and serve on Television Broadcasting Advisory Board
  • Engage industry partners to serve as advisors, guest speakers, mentors, and host student interns
  • Deliver instructional requirements for students to obtain dual credit for pathway completion
  • Follow building and district rules and procedures when performing assigned responsibilities
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships by practicing good human relations with students, staff, parents, and the community partners
  • Other duties as assigned by the CTC Director
