Job Description


 Summary:                                                                                          
                                                                                
Serves as active part of a multidisciplinary team that provides outpatient assessment and clinical
treatment services to young adults/adults and their families who present with a wide range of
significant behavioral and mental health needs. Treatment is aimed at assisting individuals by
helping them develop the skills necessary to improve their quality of life. Assists program
coordinator in the supervisory and administrative aspects of the program as assigned.


 Essential Responsibilities and Target Outcomes:                                                                                 

  • Assists program coordinator in the day-to-day clinical and administrative management of
  • outpatient program and specific grants as assigned.
  • Provides effective clinical supervision to interns and staff as assigned that focuses on maximizing clinical and administrative performance.
  • Performs comprehensive intake assessments that results in diagnosis and recommendations for psychiatric and substance abuse treatment for young adults and their families and assists with appropriate referrals and linkage to others services, if appropriate.
  • Develops treatment goals and objectives with young adult clients. Utilizes evidenced based treatments and appropriate treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) that promote the amelioration of psychiatric symptoms and/or substance abuse and behaviors exhibited by clients.
  • Evaluates client risk on an ongoing basis and formulates and implements appropriate safety plan.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with external agencies such as DMHAS, DCF, probation, court and other social service agencies.
  • Represents and promotes CMHA at community functions and required meetings and communicates potential client/community needs to senior management that will assist in future program development.


Principal Customers:
Clients referred primarily by DMHAS and DCF and at times other programs within CMHA and other social service agencies. Clinical staff and/or students assigned for supervision.    


Critical Work Relationships:
Coordinator, Program Officer, Clinicians and Recovery Specialists within department, psychiatrist,
APRN, Nurse, interns/students, DMHAS, DCF, other CMHA programs.


Minimum Requirements:


Education

A licensed master's or doctoral level mental health professional with a course of study in one of the following fields: psychology; social work; counseling; marriage and family therapy.


Credentials and Licenses:
The license must satisfy the criteria for professional and occupational licensure or certification categories pertaining to behavioral health covered in Title 20 of the General Statutes of Connecticut. First Aid, CPR and BMT.

Experience:

  • At least two years’ experience in the provision of mental health services with adolescents, young adults, adults and/or families
  • Successful experience in the supervision of clinical staff and/or clinical interns, preferably a minimum of two years.
  • Demonstrates beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook. Experience in, or the ability or willingness to learn how to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system which includes appointment scheduling, authorization tracking, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries.
