Job Description Lead Technical Engineer

Position Description
Lead Technical Engineer for a critical DHS CBP Program that is responsible for identifying, acquiring, deploying and sustaining Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) and Radiation Detection Equipment (RDE) at U.S. Ports of Entry. Serves as the Lead Business Authority’s (LBA) representative and facilitates strategic direction, functional and operational requirements, policies, procedures and resource allocation decisions. The Lead Technical Engineer will provide engineering and scientific studies and analysis in support of the NII program and various projects and initiatives to include Large and Small Scale NII systems and RDE for cargo and conveyance screening. This includes pilots and technical demonstrations to obtain advanced technologies that increase interoperability and interconnectivity of NII and RDE systems. These efforts include the integration of these technologies within the CBP data infrastructure and link available data from the technology with other law enforcement systems/data to streamline operations and enhance mission effectiveness. This also includes support for testing of NII systems for suitability, effectiveness and reliability in various operational environments.


Your future duties and responsibilities
- Conduct design studies, assessments and provide recommendations to system design objectives
- Review technical requirements and provide recommendations
- Provide technical/advisory support to boards and formal discussions
- Analyze system NII and RDE failures and provide recommendations
- Provide technical support to international discussions with regard to radiographic imaging and radiation and nuclear detection
- Provide technical support in the development of NII image system standards for the World Customs Organization (WCO) technical working group
- Draft technical presentations and reports for inter-federal agency coordination; international presentations; congressional and national level program reviews
- Provide assistance with analysis and integration of programmatic data obtained from the NII capability providers that will be used to formulate long-term plans and goals aligned with program objectives, schedules and operational and functional requirements
- Provide technical support with NII/RDE system demonstrations and pilot initiatives



Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required
- Must have at least a Master's degree in engineering or related field and at least 10 years specialized experience. Specialized experience must include at least (3) years experience in the areas of mechanical engineering, system design, radiographic imaging, engineering studies, or operational testing.
