Job Duties 

– Participate in the operation and ongoing development of statewide earthquake-monitoring networks for seismic research and public safety.

– Perform applied research and develop tools to improve earthquake monitoring and timely distribution of critical information.

– Develop and implement new technologies for real-time earthquake data processing, and oversee earthquake data analysis activities.

– Modify and configure seismic processing and analysis software, scripts and utilities using Python, Perl, and SQL.–

– Research, develop, implement and test earthquake early warning (EEW) algorithms using C++, Python, and SVN.

– Utilize HTML, JavaScript, CSS and PHP to develop and update website.

– Communicate with the media and update the website and social media to inform the public about seismic events and the field in general.

– Represent the network at meetings.

– Participate in on-call rotation for quality assurance of data collected for significant detected earthquakes.

Basic Qualifications

– PhD or equivalent degree in Earth Science or Seismology and two (2) years of experience as a Seismologist, Geophysicist, or Research Scientist.

– Two years of experience with seismic research and data analysis including development of seismic processing and analysis software for real-time applications; development of seismic data processing algorithms and web content utilizing C++, Python, Perl, HTML, and JavaScript.

– Written and oral presentation of earthquake information for both the public and scientific community.
