Turnaround: Teacher-Vocational Tech Teacher [Facilities Management]

***This school has been designated as a Level 4 or 5 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed.

Additional responsibilities such as extended day and/or year, schedules, and duties are subject to collective bargaining and turnaround plan.


Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional VOCATIONAL TECH TEACHER- Facilities Management who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders.

It is the mission of Madison Park Technical Vocational High School to provide a unique opportunity for all of its students to acquire career skills-both academic and vocational-which will enable them to compete successfully in a technologically advanced economy. Through a blend of academic and vocational instruction, applied learning, and work site experience, our students acquire the career skills and the academic knowledge that will ensure success in their chosen career and in post-secondary education.

The Facilities Management Instructor will teach the fundamental skills and competencies necessary for students to obtain meaningful employment within the field.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Headmaster
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teach a full-course load,
  2. Manage administrative duties, including a homeroom and Small Learning Community meetings.
  3. Instruct students through lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice in the methods and techniques of the trade.
  4. Plan a program of practical and technical instruction to meet individual and group educational needs.
  5. Counsel and instruct students in the work routines and soft skills necessary to pursue a career in the trade.
  6. Administer various forms of assessment to evaluate student progress; interpret results and share progress reports with other members of the staff and parents.
  7. Confer with other members of teaching staff to discuss problems and make adjustments to the program for the purpose of meeting the educational needs of the students.
  8. Maintain, repair, adjust and alter equipment and tools of the trade.
  9. Estimate materials needed for inventory and specific jobs, including cost.
  10. Teach safety and all industry related curriculum materials in a classroom setting.
  11. Share in administrative duties as determined by the Headmaster or his designee
  12. Creatively provide an interdisciplinary course of study that incorporates state curricular frameworks.
  13. Be in alignment with skills and content embodied in the schools curriculum map.

QUALIFICATIONS--REQUIRED:
  1. Hold or be able to attain a valid Massachusetts Vocational Tech Teaching License in the appropriate subject (9-14).
  2. Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  3. Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to facilities management
  4. Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.
  5. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
  6. Knowledge of curriculum development and occupational or trade instructional techniques.
  7. Knowledge of the safety practices of the trade.
  8. Knowledge of testing techniques and evaluation of results.
  9. Skill in the trade taught and the operation and maintenance of the tools and equipment necessary to teach the trade.
  10. Ability to keep class records and to write reports.
