Job Description


Boston MedFlight is a world renowned, critical care transport program established by a consortium of Boston's leading academic medical centers in 1985. The consortium is comprised of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Tufts Medical Center. 

Since its inception, Boston MedFlight has transported more than 62,000 critically ill and injured patients establishing itself as an essential component of the healthcare delivery system in the greater Boston and New England area.  Boston MedFlight’s commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with the consortium hospitals, as well as with other regional programs, has solidified its investment in safety, quality, education and training and has established the model for excellence in the critical care transport industry.

Boston MedFlight is in search of a Chief Executive Officer to work with a seasoned, nationally involved and recognized senior leadership team and is responsible for ensuring that clinical, fiscal, operational, fundraising, human resources, and programmatic strategies are effectively developed and implemented across all segments of the organization consistent with the mission, goals and by-laws of the organization.

In addition, the successful applicant will require the following key characteristics to succeed in this role:

  • The ability to build consensus, particularly amongst the leadership team and various internal and external stakeholders at Boston MedFlight;
  • Must be an astute leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems;
  • The ability to “carry the torch” for a noble cause and advance the cause for the greater good of the region;
  • The ability to be bold, have a vision and pursue that vision;
  • The willingness to always aim high, keep the bar high, and push the bar to the next level to maintain the excellent services that Boston MedFlight provides;
  • The ability to be objective, honest and direct.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA or related advanced degree
  • A working understanding of the needs and requirements for the safe and successful transport and care of critically ill and injured patients and of the EMS systems
  • At least 15 to 20 years of overall professional experience
  • Prior nonprofit experience ideal; management of a multisite organization preferred
  • Board development, fundraising, marketing/branding and fiscal management experience a must
  • A financially savvy and politically astute leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems;
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Must be able to read, speak, write and comprehend the English language without restriction
