Build your career at a growing manufacturer of award-winning medical devices

Run the business as if it were your own, leverage your "hunter" spirit to sell exceptional products to a variety of interested audiences

Bring your outside sales experience to a role where you’ll work with medical offices, clinics, and others, selling our products to spine surgeons, orthotists & prosthetists, pain management, and chiropractic market segments. Consider the benefits: If you have outside sales experience, a successful track record of closing and outstanding relationship building skills, this could be your opportunity to break into the recession-resistant medical field.

At Aspen Medical Products we pride ourselves on making the best products in the industry, products that change people’s lives. We have won many industry awards for our medical devices, which are sold through hospitals, medical practices, chiropractors, and pain management clinics. We believe that enjoying your work and making valuable contributions to business are equally vital. To that end, Aspen has been designated one of the Best Places to Work in Orange County by the Orange County Register and the Orange County Business Journal eight years in a row. We are privately owned and debt-free.

Video: Aspen Spinal Braces provide unique opportunities for experienced clinicians to significantly modify each brace to provide individualized customization options. The Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as applied sciences or business Quick question for you - click here
  • 2-5 years of successful outside sales experience. We will consider strong candidates who have consultative sales experience in other industries (e.g. mortgage sales, IT sales, etc.), or clinical professionals, such as Physical Therapists, who have the desire to switch to sales and/or have sales in their background  Quick question for you - click here
  • An understanding of how to sell through multi-channel distribution, and a willingness to learn if you haven’t already experienced it
  • A proven track record of consistently meeting and exceeding goals over your career, and an ability to grow in a stable position
  • Computer skills, including experience with a CRM (ideally Salesforce) and the ability to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with people from all levels of a medical organization, from surgeons to administrators
  • The ability to work independently with a high degree of self-motivation to meet goals, come up with solutions, and create new avenues for growth
  • A valid driver license and insurable driving record Quick question for you - click here
  • Experience calling on orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and neurologists, with a focus on selling orthotics, is preferred but not required
You'll work out of your home office and cover a territory that includes Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Our preference is that you live in Columbus, Cincinnati or Pittsburgh, but we also will consider highly qualified candidates in Cleveland. You will travel throughout your territory, but most is day travel. We expect overnight travel to be approximately one night per week.

The Role

Hunting and farming
The right person for this role knows how to strike a good balance between farming and hunting. The current account base is strong, and you’ll spend about half of your time working with current clients to grow those accounts. There’s also plenty of growth potential outside of our current account base, so the other half of your time will go to hunting for new business in a variety of markets. Some leads will come from targeted campaigns, some from tradeshows, and some from you strategically knocking on doors.

The sales profile for this role requires someone who can be both consultative and professionally assertive. There will be some practices where you'll need to convince the clinicians, with the backing of strong scientific data, that bracing is a true need. It will not be enough to address needs as defined by the customer, but to challenge those with data, all while trying not to push or steamroll the clients.

Territory
The Midwest Region has six field-based territories, and you’ll become a part of that team. Working from your home office you'll be in charge of the territory spanning all of Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. You’ll travel most days, but the territory is very drivable. You’ll spend an average of one night per week away from home.

Wide variety of possibilities
You’ll have an almost unlimited opportunity to grow the current business while expanding our client base, as there are many ways to build a strategy to meet your sales goals. The primary prescribers of our devices are orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists, etc., who prescribe bracing for treatment. Some of these practices have a durable medical equipment license to fit and sell the braces themselves. Others sell through orthotics and prosthetics providers who complete the fit and purchase side of the transaction. As the field product expert, you’ll service your current customers with an eye to expanding their use of our offerings. At the same time, you'll be looking for ways to expand our client base. Ultimately, you’re in control of your strategy to work through whichever avenues make the most sense to help you get our devices where they can do the most good for the most patients.

Support structure
When you have questions or need support for order fulfillment, the product managers and customer service team are just a phone call away. You’ll see your supervisor in your territory at least once per quarter, as well as at quarterly regional meetings where you and the rest of the regional sales team will have the chance to learn and develop personally and professionally. You’ll also talk to him at least daily, and to the rest of the team at least every week on team calls. He will be available to work with you on strategic ride-alongs for key clients, but more importantly, he will be available to you anytime to discuss your ideas to grow the territory.

Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

More Good Reasons

Training for success
Through our programs, you will become an Aspen product specialist and absolute expert in bracing the spine. You’ll also acquire a working knowledge of what it means to have a durable medical equipment license. For your initial training, you’ll go to our home office in CA for a week to learn about our products and the market, and other basics to help you get started. You’ll also have one-on-one time with your supervisor to get set up with current clients and set expectations. Our in-house subject matter experts will be just a phone call away to help you learn, and you’ll have a sales mentor as well as opportunities to co-travel with experienced reps.

Autonomy and support
We’ll look to you to achieve goals independently and assume ownership of your areas of responsibility. At the same time, you’ll have support and resources whenever you need them, including the training described above. Our goal is to set you up for success, and support you throughout your role.

Professional development
We support our employees’ efforts to learn and grow, offering a variety of training and development opportunities. Success in this role could set you up to pursue different career paths within our company, particularly as we grow and evolve.

Award-winning products enhance the quality of people’s lives
Backed by over 25 years of R&D, Aspen Medical Products help patients cope with chronic conditions, manage pain, and heal faster (see testimonials in the video on The Role tab). Our innovative approach and strong business model have earned us distinctions. In addition to the workplace excellence awards mentioned above, we have won:
  • Several Spine Technology Awards from Orthopedics This Week.
  • The American Technology Award, in the medical device category, from TechAmerica Foundation.
  • Awards for delivering exceptional service as a vendor, from Hanger/SPS, a leading distributor of orthotic and prosthetic patient care and therapeutic products, services and solutions.
  • And others.
Exemplary culture
You will find a close-knit culture that values mutual respect at Aspen. The numerous “Best Places to Work” awards we’ve won represent high levels of employee satisfaction (as reported by employees) as well as excellence in benefits, pay, work/life balance and culture.

Competitive benefits package
The health, satisfaction and security of you and your family are important to your well-being and important to us. We offer a competitive salary and uncapped commission; medical, dental and vision benefits for you and your family; life insurance; paid vacation; and a 401(k) plan with company match. As a salesperson, you’ll also receive a car stipend and mileage reimbursement.

Through donation, fundraising and volunteering, Aspen employees unify to support the CAF in numerous ways. Keys to Success

Your skill as a consultative salesperson will be critical to your success here. We're looking for a sales professional who is motivated to drive growth. We understand that there will be a learning curve as you get up to speed on our robust product lines. As stated, we'll provide training, but you will need to be proactive about learning quickly. You also should remain open to input a direction -- we want to help you continue to grow professionally.

Additionally, to thrive at Aspen Medical Products you will be detail-oriented, proactive and eager to get acquainted with your territory so you can begin selling. Your prospects will be diverse, and each one will have unique needs and concerns. In most cases there will be an educational component: you'll need to be passionate about helping clients understand how our products can make a difference. You also should pair your engaging, proactive, consultative sales approach with a professionally assertive, persistent approach. However, you'll need to strike a careful balance so as not to make clients feel they're being pushed too hard.

You’ll also need to be strongly self-motivated as you’ll be working from your home office. Though your supervisor will talk to you every day and help you make the plans to succeed, you’ll have to be strong at executing the plan on your own. You won't have the same routine from week to week, and success will require you to invest time and effort.

Our organization is always evolving, so you’ll need to be comfortable dealing with ambiguity from time to time. However, this is an exciting time to join us as we’re in the midst of a good deal of growth, and your ideas and input for the growth of your territory and the evolution of our sales process will be welcomed.
