What Is a Surveying Technician?

A surveying technician assists a survey team in assessing features of a building site or land. They use mapping instruments and data analysis, as well as other surveying tools to perform their duties to make measurements and collect information about the earth and its features. Qualifications for this career include a bachelor’s degree in geography, geology, or a related field and experience using GIS software and other digital tools. Important skills for this job include the ability to read maps, strong technical and drafting knowledge, and the ability to work as a member of a team.
