As a SIGINT analyst, you examine foreign communication and relay that information to intelligence professionals for strategic or combat purposes. Your responsibilities are to conduct analysis on incoming data, research the party sending the communication, and create reports on your findings for higher-ranking officials. The role of signals intelligence is vital to the protection of the nation. Other duties include camouflaging surveillance systems, identifying operational patterns, and maintaining accurate databases. These jobs are found with the U.S. Army, Air Force, National Guard, or federal counterintelligence agencies.
How to Become a SIGINT Analyst
Joining the Armed Forces and undergoing relevant training are the primary qualifications to become a SIGINT analyst. You must complete the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery tests, 10 weeks of basic combat training, and 24 weeks of advanced individual training. Prior skills in technology and software are helpful but not necessary. You must score a 112 in the skilled technical section of the ASVAB test. Your understanding of foreign languages and geographical locations are an asset to federal agencies, which you acquire during your training. You must be able to remain alert while performing repetitive tasks.
