What Is a Product Assembler?

A product assembler works in a warehouse environment or for a manufacturer, producing components that require the assembly of parts. In this career, you can assemble these components by hand or with small tools. Your responsibilities include reading blueprints, assembling or fabricating mechanical parts, maintaining inventory in your workstation, performing quality checks as required, identifying product defects, and repairing equipment as needed. You use various hand tools and more complex equipment, depending on your position. You may also be in charge of loading completed assemblies onto trucks and unloading parts utilizing a forklift. Other duties include understanding and following company policies and safety guidelines.

How Do You Become a Product Assembler?

The qualifications needed to become a product assembler include a high school diploma or GED certificate, reading skills, the ability to follow detailed instructions, and some computer skills. You must be detail-oriented and able to problem-solve. Physically, you must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. You also need excellent manual dexterity to complete repetitive assemblies accurately and efficiently. Some employers require previous experience in assembly positions. Being certified to drive a forklift can make your more competitive in this industry.
