What Is an Installation Technician and How to Become One
What Does an Installation Technician Do?
Installation technicians work in a variety of industries and may be responsible for the installation of various services or products, such as computers, cable or internet networks, signs, swimming pools, alarm systems, and car audio systems. As an installation technician, you follow proper procedures and specifications on the placement of the system installation, test out the setup to ensure it works properly, and complete all required paperwork. You may also be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading the systems when necessary.
How to Become an Installation Technician
The qualifications to become an installation technician vary, depending on the position and industry. Most installation technician jobs only require a high school diploma, though taking training courses at a community college or vocational school may make you a more valuable candidate in the job market. Some employers provide on-the-job training for new installation technicians, so they may be willing to hire someone with little to no experience in the industry. You may also be required to pass a drug test and background check before being hired.
