As a children’s entertainer, your responsibilities include developing activities to entertain kids at a birthday party, family event, or another special occasion. Some positions require you to perform a variety of duties like balloon twisting, face painting, and magic tricks, but you can also find work performing a specific routine. You are expected to organize the activities you plan to do with the kids to keep them occupied and interested for a set period of time. Some jobs require you to act and dance, either independently or with other entertainers. There are many specialized opportunities within children’s entertainment for those with unique talents or interests, including magicians, clowns, costumed characters, and puppeteers. You should always be improving your act and using criticism to enhance your show.

How to Be a Good Children's Entertainer

Qualifications needed to become a children’s entertainer do not generally include formal education, but to be more competitive and successful in the industry, training in music, dance, or acting is beneficial. You must have the ability to read your audience and adapt your show to suit their interests. You must have a passion for working with children and have a fun and outgoing personality as well. You need confidence, energy, strong leadership, and interpersonal skills to work well with both parents and young kids. Most positions require you to have availability on weekends, as well as evenings and holidays. You must also have a driver’s license and be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
