How to Become an Automotive Technician

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends that you pursue a postsecondary or vocational degree in automotive repair and maintenance to be a strong candidate for an entry-level automotive technician job. In these programs, you will take classroom courses, such as mathematics, and participate in hands-on training. You can also improve your job prospects by enrolling in a two-year associate degree programs. Some automobile dealers sponsor associate degree programs. There may be other certifications or licenses for you to work in a particular specialty, such as work with refrigerants.
