Job Description

shark&minnow is seeking an entry-level Junior Copywriter to join our fast-growing team. We are a strategy and design consultancy whose purpose is to serve as a catalyst for change in business and marketing and a disruptive force in creativity and innovation. We make the complex simple.

We are looking for an individual with strong skills and a passion for public relations and social media (though day-to-day tasks may span the marketing spectrum). The role supports day-to-day management and execution of all marketing systems powered by our Design and Content departments. This includes but is not limited to digital marketing campaigns and community management, client relationship building, and general team support. Individuals who will excel in this position are highly responsible, organized, creative, flexible, and fast learners looking to make an impact.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (e.g. Marketing, Journalism, Communications, PR/Media Relations)
  • 0 – 2 years of marketing experience
  • Expertise with public relations, press outreach and storying pitching, composing press releases
  • Expertise with email marketing platforms
  • Expertise with social media systems, platforms and tools
  • Expertise with digital tools, trends, and foundation
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Be self-directed toward excellent work outcomes
  • Excellent discretion & professionalism, demonstrating sound judgment
  • Ability to travel occasionally

Roles, Responsibilities & Skills

  • Public Relations:
    • Responsible for handling all aspects of planned publicity campaigns and public relations activities
    • Planning publicity strategies and campaigns
    • Writing and producing presentations and press releases
    • Dealing with inquiries from the public, the press, and related organizations
    • Organizing and attending promotional events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours and visits
    • Speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations
    • Providing clients with information about new promotional opportunities and current PR campaigns progress
    • Analyzing media coverage
    • Liaising with clients, managerial and journalistic staff
  • Social Media:
    • Planning content strategist and calendars
    • Planning and managing content marketing strategies
    • Demonstrable experience with social media platforms, including bu not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram
    • Demonstrable experience leveraging social media management and analytics tools, with platforms such as SproutSocial and Hootsuite
    • Demonstrable experience with writing, editing, composing content for the social media space,
    • Demonstrable experience with photography and/or photo editing software
    • Day to day management of sequential paid social marketing programs that drive users throughout the customer journey
    • Serve as social platform subject matter expert – understanding trends and working with teams to implement findings into strategies quickly and efficiently
    • Partner with Brand to understand an editorial calendar and content flow, and to ensure that a promotion plan and strategy is in place for always on/ evergreen content
    • Build out new campaigns based on learnings and opportunities for growth across social channels
    • Partnering with designers to ensure creative assets are optimized for performance
    • Work closely with channel partners including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. to deeply understand ad platforms
  • Content:
    • Excellent written communication skills and mastery of English language and grammar
    • Write content, as needed, across multiple print, digital & social platforms
    • Move content through production process, incorporating changes by related parties, copy-fitting and conferring with art and production personnel
    • Assist with planning and scheduling process
    • Maintain high level of copyediting knowledge (improve accuracy, readability and fitness of purpose)
    • Strong organization and time management skills; flexibility with tight deadlines and varying workloads
    • Ability to learn new applications and new content subjects quickly
    • Support the seeding/landing of news stories on behalf of our clients
  • Digital Acumen & Marketing Systems: You have the digital acumen required to manage, publish, maintain and monitor branded digital marketing systems. You are responsible for the development, measurement and optimization of digital marketing solutions for Clients on an on-going basis. This includes:
    • Executing an editorial calendar for publishing, including paid promotion plans
    • Partnering with creative teams to ensure that content is relevant for the brand and audiences
    • Managing the creation of image, article, and video-based content through a process with multiple approval layers
    • Contributing to strategic presentations on new technology or industry updates for internal teams and external partners
    • Proven creative thinking applied to data, systems and processes
  • Analytical: You welcome the opportunity to dig deep into data, analyze and reveal actionable insights. You are able to work with a strategic planner to establish content KPIs/goals, and to drive measurement report creation and delivery on a weekly or monthly basis
  • Consulting, Account & Project Management: You embody the confidence to work directly with clients and manage the procurement of client approvals, feedback, information and details as needed. You are comfortable collaborating with client and internal teams to ensure all deliverables are high quality and shared on time. You have an entrepreneurial mindset. You should feel comfortable throughout all phases of a project, from translating verbal ideas into marketing concepts, through digital development and refinement, to creating digital experiences.

  • User Experience Mindset: You understand and can articulate a human-centered design approach to marketing
