Job Description

We are seeking a Vice President of Operations in Residential Construction to join our team! You will oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.

We are a residential construction company specializing in remodeling, home additions and new building. These projects require a high level of project management due to the coordination of materials and trades within a condensed timeframe.

We are currently seeking a Vice President of Operations that will be accountable for all aspects of our projects. The position requires a detailed oriented person with a history of managing multiple projects, completing them on time and on budget without compromising the quality of the finished product. This will include financial/profitability management, material ordering, site management, trade scheduling, quality assurance and serve as the project contact.

The responsibilities of the position will include but not limited to:

Managing all aspects of our projects including material ordering/delivery, written project schedules, bid management, performance of our employees and subcontractors. Projects must be completed on-time, on budget, with an eye towards zero defects. When a callback does occur, the project manager will manage the warranty process.

Managing all field communications from the point the project is authorized until the project is completed and all punch out items have been resolved. Perform walk throughs and status updates to our cloud based management system.

Checking the work of various trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, hardwood, carpet, tile, and painting. You will be expected to “look ahead” and anticipate potential problems to avoid disruptions in the schedule. Schedule inspections as needed.

Working with our salesperson/designer/office staff to perform site evaluations, material takeoffs, and assemble the package required to price a project during the sales process. Coordinating any resources required during the sales process (for example: a structural engineer site visit)
Assemble change orders, and organize estimates and bids.

Ultimate accountability for jobsite safety, cleanliness, security, and protection from damage during construction by supervising on site resources.

Some nights and weekend work will be required based on project requirements and staying on top of various project management tasks.

Self starter - if you have downtime between project's being launched, further opportunities exist that helps grow the organization.

Experience Required:

2+ years of residential construction production management experience. A history of managing multiple concurrent projects with multiple moving components. This includes delivering clear instructions and following up to confirm execution with employees, subs, partners and suppliers.

2+ years of managing the financial and operational aspects of a construction project. This includes managing the profitability of the project, ordering materials, managing employees time, change orders, etc.

Technology savvy - be proficient with Microsoft Word/Excel, email, smartphone, uploading pictures, web based project management software.

Ability to read and understand construction architectural drawings, civil engineering site plans, MEP drawings.

Formal written schedules and job logs – systems to track the schedule, manage to that, job logs and tracking of completed and incomplete items. Each project will need a planned schedule prior to the start of each project, which will be adjusted as the project proceeds through the production phase.

Must be able to pass a background check including driving record, drug and criminal.

We prefer candidates that reside within 15 miles of Alexandria VA

Compensation for the position:

Includes a competitive base salary, with many opportunities for growth.

Schedule & Environment:

Vice President of Operations will typically be working in the field from vehicle or jobsites in Northern VA, DC, and MD. We have an office in Old Town, Alexandria VA for your use and convenience but not necessary to report daily unless for scheduled meetings or as necessary to fulfill role as Vice President of Operations.

Hours will range from 7am to 7pm depending on the requirements of the project.
