We farm to educate and train through gardens and greenhouses. We cultivate leadership through year round programming focused on planting, growing, preparing and distributing the food we grow. Youth Farm is currently hiring for a Development & Communications Associate. This is a new 1.0 FTE position. Youth Farm is a passionate and diverse work environment full of people who are dedicated to using food as a catalyst for youth to grow. The Development & Communications Associate reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for 2 key areas of support and growth within Youth Farm, 1) providing support and management of the organizations development and grant efforts, and 2) management of the organization’s ongoing communication efforts. This is a non-supervisory position.

Development (60%)

  • Manage Grants Calendar;

  • Work with Executive Director to prepare grants to corporate and family foundations;

  • Manage database of Youth Farm language for grant proposals;

  • Work with Executive Director to identify new grant and contract opportunities;

  • Assist Executive Director and Development Committee with annual fundraisers;

  • Assist Executive Director with grant reports and submission;

  • Attend Development Committee meetings.

Communications (40%)

  • Plan, compose, and execute content for social media, email newsletter, website and other collateral according to the communications framework;

  • Collaborate with Youth Farm Staff to create effective content for target audience;

  • Create social media posts & compose social media campaigns;

  • Create press releases and effectively communicate with the media;

  • Create and send marketing emails;

  • Assist in the organization of internal company wide events;

  • Assist with various external events and tours.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills and computer literacy required (request will be made for writing sample if invited for interview);

  • Grant writing experience, while a benefit, is not a requirement;

  • Effective in time management;

  • Strong project management skills and experience;

  • Ability to write, photograph, edit and produce content;

  • Drivers license and transportation to get to all Youth Farm sites;

  • Passion for Youth Farm mission.

Compensation/benefits

  • Full-time, 40 hour/week, non-exempt position;

  • $40,000 starting annual salary;

  • This position requires some evening and weekend work availability;

  • Includes Medical/Dental benefits package;

  • Paid vacation, sick time and holidays.
