Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Pharmaceutical Utilities Engineer in Phoenix Arizona. This position is approved for 1 year and could very well be extended.

Pay Rate: $80 plus/Hr.

Big Picture Skills:

  • The Utilities Engineer is the primary resource for the site related to the utilities to support a major expansion in the Manufacturing Facility.
  • Assure utilities to support the expansion project are designed, sized, and coordinated to meet the timelines of the project.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Coordinate with the design engineering firm and construction management team during the design and construction phase of the project.
  • Work with Maintenance Dept. to assure all new utility systems align with the existing systems
  • Assure aspects of the life cycle equipment are considered to assure optimal operation.
  • Review/understand company standards and assure utility equipment is compliant.
  • Work with equipment suppliers during design, install, and start-up of utility systems.
  • Responsible for the proper design, tie-in, installation, and start-up of all utility systems required to support the expansion project.
  • Coordinate with Architectural & Engineering firm to assure aspects of utility systems are designed to provide the support of the plant needs and align with company standards.
  • Work with the Construction Manager for the installation and start-up of utility systems.
  • Assure life cycle activities such as PMs and spare parts inventory are adequate to allow for no interruption to utility operations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 7 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a Pharmaceutical environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may substitute.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of cooling towers, chillers, DI generation systems, compressed air systems including compressors and dryers, and WFI system design standards for storage, pumps, and distribution systems in order to support the expansion capabilities at the site.
  • Extensive experience with operating and the design of utility systems/equipment.
  • Knowledge of Aseptic processing equipment.
  • Expertise in quality control systems, cGMP engineering design practices, equipment installation techniques including sustainability opportunities, GAMP principles, OSHA regulations, and Factory Mutual requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of utilities equipment, including technologies in the market, and the advantages/disadvantages of each technology. Utilities knowledge includes cooling towers, chillers, DI Water systems, compressed air systems including compressors and dryers, clean steam generators, WFI system/components design principles.
  • Strong understanding of cGMP regulations surrounding utility systems.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:

  • Point of contact with the A&E firm to assure a successful design and implementation.
  • Assure office systems such as lighting, HVAC, data, and adherence to codes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or other Science related field
