Executive Director of Teen Development

General function:
Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Executive Director of YGB Teen Development is responsible for all decision-making related to the implementation, financial development strategy, community engagement, board development and operations of Teen programs in accordance with the policies, practices, By-laws and Constitution of the YMCA of Greater Boston. This position is primarily responsible for driving and delivering Teen programming at its 13 branches, with a specific focus its Signature Programs: Achievers, Leaders Club, Youth & Government and “Get Summer”.
Key responsibilities:
- Board Development: Work with others to build and sustain an experienced, knowledgeable, committed and supportive volunteers to serve on the Board of Advisors.
- Financial Development: Partners with YGB Financial Development team and Board of Advisors to increase funds in support of our Signature Programs.
- Community engagement: Enhance the Y’s participation in the community and recruit qualified volunteers to serve as mentors, subject-matter experts, coaches, advisors, etc.
- Budgeting: Creates an annual budget and execute the same to the plan.
- Committee Participation: Attend and actively participate in the monthly Executive Director and Teen cabinets.
- Association/Branch Support: Participate in trend identification and strategies designed to improve the Y’s efforts in and responses to the following areas:
- Membership growth and retention;
- Program enrollment growth and conversion to membership;
- Philanthropic/Annual Campaign growth; and
- External environmental, societal and demographic changes.
- Perform such other task as may be assigned.
- Program Quality: Support branch leaders and volunteers to deliver high quality programs. Develops systems to measure, evaluate and monitor program quality, impact and efficacy. Develop a system to ensure that teens participate in at least two or more YGB Signature Programs.
- Staff Development: Provide direct support and supervision to the Achievers Operations Director, Branch Teen Directors and others serving teens at our branches and program centers. Provide input on the performance evaluations and career improvement plans for all teen programming staff.
Outcomes and position expectations:
- Annual Campaign targets are accomplished.
- A high functioning Board of Advisors is supported and sustained.
- High quality programs are in place and consistently implemented in the following areas:
- College and career readiness,
- Leadership development,
- Civic engagement,
- Life skills, and Healthy living.
4. Timely and proactive planning for effective outcomes for operating units and programs under your supervision, especially where performance concerns exist. 5. Develop a complete knowledge of operating details of programs and branch operations related thereto 6. Support Teen staff in the achievement of, at a minimum, identified metrics and qualitative goals.
Education and experience:
¨ BS/BA Four year college degree.
¨ Certified Organizational Leader, with a minimum of eight years professional YMCA or comparable experience
Skills competencies/Know How:
¨ Superior Communication skills - both written and verbal.
¨ 4 years’ experience leading a board of advisors
¨ 4 years’ experience engaging, motivating and leading volunteer to accomplish goals.
¨ Experience raising major gifts and success leading fundraising events.
¨ Supervisory experience- leading diverse groups of people and inspiring them to deliver high quality work.
¨ Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
¨ Experience supporting young people, specifically diverse, low income and 1st generation youth matriculating into college.
¨ Excellent interpersonal skills are required to relate to diverse youth, parents, corporate partners and volunteers.
¨ Experience building diverse networks of supporters and leveraging corporate partnership to improve outcomes.
¨ Understanding of youth development podgy and the role social emotional development as a driver of positive outcomes for young people.
¨ Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude about Boston youth, the YGB, and our commitment to youth development.
¨ 5 + years’ experience developing and successfully managing budgets.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
Work Environment:
