Data Specialist / Trainer

GENERAL PURPOSE 

This position is responsible for training the customer on the use of Trimble 2D and 3D machine control systems and telematics hardware on non-Cat branded machines, and of Cat AccuGrade systems on Caterpillar machines.  Training and technical support of site positioning technology, including base stations, rovers, data collectors, and robotic total stations also falls under the scope of this position.  Additionally, the Data Specialist/Trainer is responsible for providing customer support through the performance of on-site diagnosis, troubleshooting, service, and repair of on and off machine Trimble hardware and software.  The Data Specialist/Trainer is responsible for the development of localized training materials and providing training to end-users in the field, shop, and classroom.  Maintain customer satisfaction by delivering quality technical assistance, troubleshooting, support, and training in a timely manner. Must be able to convert the engineers design files to a Trimble compatible format using Trimble Business Center.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary resource in providing on machine maintenance and high-level training of Heavy Civil Construction technology at the customers site
  • Ensures the operational quality of the system by documenting post-installation tests
  • Provides on-site and long distance troubleshooting as needed
  • Provides high-level operator training to end-users
  • Ensures that training and support is completed on time
  • Documents and reports field activities as well as being pro-active in creating process improvements
  • Assist sales and marketing with trade shows and events
  • Ability to manipulate various CAD files (TTM, DWG, DXF, DGN)
  • Understanding of coordinate systems (CAL, DC, CFG)
  • Creates and provides localized training services for qualified customers

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Strong technology aptitude and understanding of Trimble machine control and site positioning products
  • Present and follow a prescribed training outline in a professional manner
  • Ability to troubleshoot Trimble hardware and software
  • Ability to listen and understand the customers needs
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment is desired
  • Able to follow both routine and advanced procedures and to think analytically
  • Ability to plan and organize work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal, written, and problem solving skills
  • Experience working in a team environment

 

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING 

  • Two year college or vocational degree in civil engineering, surveying, or equivalent

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Training/presentation experience that would enable the candidate to successfully hold 8 hour training classes from 1 to 5 days in length in classroom or field environments
  • Presentation and/or course development skills
  • Must have a basic understanding of using a PC including Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Familiarity with construction site operations using heavy equipment machine controlled systems is desired
  • Operation of heavy construction equipment desired

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

  • Moderate to loud noise levels, exposure to all outdoor weather conditions
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Wyoming driver’s license
  • Standing for long periods on concrete or other hard surfaces; walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Sitting and driving a vehicle for long periods
  • Bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing
  • Use of ladders and steps for accessing equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance
  • Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, manipulating tools/objects, and writing/typing
  • Frequent exposure to substances, including but not limited to: grease, oil, dirt
  • Exposure to dangerous environments, including mine sites and construction sites required
  • Overtime, varying schedules, and overnight stays away from home are required
