WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. (WSM) is a nonprofit organization that serves as the lead workforce development organization for Montgomery County Maryland. Under the guidance of the Local Workforce Development Board, WSM focuses on linking local and regional economic and workforce development efforts. As the fiduciary agent for the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding in Montgomery County, WSM operates the American Job Centers in Wheaton and Germantown and provides employment services to county residents who are unemployed or underemployed. In addition, WSM engages employers in various industries throughout the county to ensure that their workforce needs are being met.

Job Overview

Are you someone who is creative, tech-savvy, detail-oriented, extremely organized, and able to multi-task and create visually appealing graphics for multiple platforms and mediums?

We are currently looking for an in-house content curator with excellent graphic design and social media skills to join our team. Your responsibilities would include creating fresh new graphics and content for multiple mediums (social media, web, print, videos, etc.) and include some writing, proofreading, and editing. The two key attributes a successful candidate must possess are excellent technical/graphic design skills and a solid knowledge of social media best practices. Candidates must also have flawless written grammatical and communication skills and a detail-oriented, highly organized approach when completing the job responsibilities listed below.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of creating visually engaging graphics for multiple mediums/channels and audiences, managing social media accounts for businesses/organizations, writing copy for social posts, websites, newsletters, and other marketing materials, and taking/editing photos and videos at events to use as digital content. Graphic design experience is a must. This individual will be highly organized, proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated with a "roll up the sleeves" mentality and strong sense of urgency. This individual should also have an excellent understanding of the digital space, including but not limited to, the following platforms: Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Sprout Social, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, MS Office Suite, WordPress, and AI content creation platforms/technology. Project Management experience and/or certifications are also desirable. Fluency in speaking, writing, and reading Spanish is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to turn a mundane topic into something interesting, visually engaging, and appealing, and be able to connect emotionally with the reader. Additional qualities include being self-motivated, able to work independently, a fast learner, with a positive mental attitude, a great eye for design aesthetics, as well as solid photography and video skills. Candidates for this position will be required to submit a portfolio and writing samples representing relevant work as a part of the application and evaluation process.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 2 to 4-year degree in marketing, communications, digital marketing, visual communication, commercial or graphic arts, creative (design/media/video), visual communication (imaging and digital arts), or related field is required.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of professional graphic design experience for digital, print and web with a strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva are required.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience managing/working with professional business social media channels and analytics required.
  • Previous marketing, communications, branding, social media, and/or graphic design experience in a corporate setting or for corporate clients required.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of graphic design and design literacy, including layout, visual hierarchy, typography, color management and/or composition, various image formats, resolution and size, and specifications for video creation/editing.
  • History of telling compelling stories through unique creative assets and visual interactions.
  • Experience in content development, copywriting, and brand management across multiple platforms.
  • Experience designing infographics, icons, video reels, and other graphics for social media platforms.
  • Experience designing and laying out various formats/types of marketing collateral, publications, and reports.
  • Ability to visualize in 2D and 3D and understand aesthetic aspects of design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel template design.
  • Experience in photography and photo editing (i.e., photo/image retouching skills).
  • Experience in designing and producing digital graphics for inclusion in videos.
  • Understanding of the color correction, printing, and digital processes, and how to design for print.
  • Experience with production requirements and working with outside vendors, i.e., printers, exhibit vendors, other vendors/agencies.
  • Experience with email marketing automation, email design and layout, and email marketing strategies.
  • Demonstrate high levels of creativity, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and innovative problem-solving ability.
  • Aptitude to work constructively under stress in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and still satisfy multiple requirements on time in an environment where interruptions will be constant, and requirements frequently change.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control and accuracy.
  • Excellent organization skills, creative, outgoing, detail oriented, and self-motivator.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks and deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills while working in demanding, ever-changing, fast-paced environments.
  • Resourceful, innovative, and proactive spirit to uncover solutions to keep moving projects forward.
  • Experience in video creation and editing experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of creating 508-compliant and accessible documents a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of web design principles, managing WordPress websites, and website UX/UI fundamentals a plus.
  • Knowledge of managing company Intranet sites (SharePoint, Yammer, etc.) a plus.
  • Knowledge of podcasts (creation, management, etc.) a plus.
  • Maintain proper attendance and timeliness.
  • Computer literacy/tech savvy - must possess a strong knowledge of all Microsoft applications, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, WordPress, social media tools (i.e., Sprout Social, Meta Suite), as well as proven experience with social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of AI content creation platforms (i.e., Synthesia) a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license/transportation and be willing to attend WSM events, meetings and/or local MoCo events as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in daily operations of Communications Department including but not limited to planning, developing, and executing the creation of digital and social media content, marketing and communications collateral, video and photo library management, and supporting special events, media relations, and community impact events.
  • Create designs across a variety of platforms, media and devices; and oversee it from creation to publication in an extremely timely and efficient manner.
  • Generate high quality/accurate marketing and communications collateral leveraging impeccable attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Understand and maintain WSM Brand standards throughout all content creation.
  • Manage brand templating software (Canva/Adobe Creative Suite) including authoring new templates, editing, and archiving assets, and creating design templates.
  • File Management: Design and prepare electronic files for web, digital and print production using prepress industry standards for file setup. Finalize files and be responsible for delivering, updating, and archiving files when necessary.
  • Work with internal/external stakeholders to define project requirements, obtain information or materials needed to create new content; and provide process advice for optimal visual communication production.
  • Brainstorm, pitch, write, and produce daily digital & social media content and build monthly social media content calendar.
  • Support management of WSM's day-to-day social media operations to generate positive brand awareness and drive traffic to WSM's website.
  • Manage WSM's social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) and engage/respond to followers' inquiries.
  • Help develop and manage a social media strategy.
  • Analyze and optimize the performance of WSM's existing channels.
  • Creating graphics, copywriting captions, and posting/scheduling social content via Sprout Social.
  • Act as SME over social media content scheduling and analytics tool (Sprout Social) and evaluate performance of all posts to identify trends as well as opportunities to improve metrics.
  • Produce monthly dashboard reports for Comms Director and executive leadership.
  • Ensure that social media profiles are up to date and align with our current branding and messaging.
  • Create FB/IG video reels and "stories" with a combination of simple text, still photos, videos, and montages as needed.
  • Follow other workforce development industry partners, influencers, and professionals - interact with them in comments, stories, cross-promotional agreements, tags, etc.
  • Social media reach out to increase WSM's social presence and influence by identifying and connecting with other accounts/pages.
  • Monitor trends in social media and apply that knowledge to suggest and help create viral content ideas.
  • Recommends changes to existing content and processes so that it is more effective at achieving its desired/intended purpose.
  • Assists in keeping WSM Intranet, Comms SOP & documentation, and other materials' content always updated and current.
  • Other duties as assigned.
