Job Description

The Role:

As the VP of Growth and Strategy, you will play a critical role in the growth and expansion of the organization through identifying favorable landscapes and developing and executing an expansion implementation strategy. The VP of Growth and Strategy will set the strategic direction for local and national growth in accordance with the organization’s vision and priorities. In addition, this person will play a key role in managing relationships to extend and deepen the organization’s work within current school districts and institutions of higher education.

Location: Houston, TX. Hybrid work is expected – in office three times a week

Manager Relationship: The VP of Growth will report to the organization CEO

Specifically, this role will:

  • Conduct robust research to identify favorable funding, district, and college access landscapes to inform the organization’s expansion strategy
  • Support the development of district scaling and sustainability plans to help meet student target numbers
  • Develop and translate strategy into actionable plans and timelines
  • Build authentic, trusting relationships with a wide variety of partners
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with the organization’s VP of Programs to strengthen existing relationships with districts
  • Design and execute a strategy to secure contracts that achieve our goal of implementing additional college access partnerships across Houston and another region
  • Ensure leadership team considers vertical and horizontal implications of expansion decisions
  • Build out a system for documenting ongoing cultivation and management of school district prospects and college relationships
  • Act as a senior member of the organization team, contributing to larger organizational and strategic decisions and modeling our values and leadership competencies
  • Ensure suitable metrics are in place to measure the ongoing progress of implementation of the expansion strategy

Required Experience and Expectations:

  • Minimum of 7 years of senior level experience with a K-12 education nonprofit, school district/CMO leadership, or in higher education with a strong track record of program or operational scaling experience
  • Proven history of identifying growth-enabling initiatives and opportunities, preferably in K-12 education, higher education, or nonprofits
  • Exceptional communication, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate in a high-speed, dynamic environment
