Job Description


The QA Specialist is responsible for monitoring products and employee practices on the operation floor and for executing the Woodland Foods Food Safety Plan through processes and procedures in day to day business activities. The QA specialist will operate in a QA/Regulatory team with other QA specialists with defined responsibilities but should be able to perform other QA departmental tasks as needed.


•Management of Lab Results (outside laboratory testing)

•Customer Certificate of Analysis creation using database system

•Collaboration with Customer Service, Sales and Quality team to ensure customers’ COA requirements are properly managed

•Management of product sampling necessary for COA creation

•Customer Complaint Management – including proper investigation

•Management of Non-Conformant products (including destructions)

•Management of Non-Conformant product reporting

• Release products which are on hold when approval is received

• Generate disposal reports for materials on hold to be disposed

• Conduct quality and food safety audits, individually or as part of a team

• Take part in cross functional teams to assure effective implementation of food safety and quality initiatives and other processes, as necessary--CAPA


• Perform clean equipment/ATP swabbing on equipment after sanitation

• Perform environmental swabbing during manufacturing

• Responsible for the sharing of audit best practices and deficiencies across the company to improve performance and scores

• Clearly and concisely capture audit findings to provide recipients with a report of actionable items

• Gather and study data and/or provide technical support to understand trends and issues to make decisions and provide input related to product safety and quality in areas of assigned responsibility, as necessary

• Perform QA in-process inspections for each department/line once per shift by checking the following: production paperwork, retain sample, code date/lot number/best by date, weight check documentation, metal detection documentation, label, color code, department cleanliness employee GMP practice and checking for any potential allergen cross-contamination

• Generate maintenance work requests linked to Quality/Food Safety

• Create, maintain and file QA documents

• Support customer requests with business and product information

• Conduct any other functions as required by the QA department


• BS in Food Science, Biology or Chemistry or related field required

• Troubleshooting, data analysis, and investigative skills required

•Must have strong computer skills and be familiar with MicroSoft Office Word and Excel (heavy computer usage in QA Specialist role)

• Incumbent must be able to work under direct or indirect supervision

• Minimum of 1 to 3 years industry experience preferred

• Knowledge of food safety, food manufacturing processes, technologies or other relevant area of responsibility preferred.

• Sound report writing, with good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

• Good organization and time management skills

• Attention to detail

• Knowledge of government regulatory requirements in food (GFSI, FSMA, FDA, USDA) a plus

•Knowledge of BRC, GMP's, Sanitation, Pest Control, Food Safety and HACCP systems, Training, Allergens, Operations, Personnel Practices and applicable programs/regulations a plus

•Bilingual /English helpful


• Minimal to none


• Ability to sit, walk and/or stand for up to 8 (or more, possibly) hours a day

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed for product inspections
