Job Description SUMMARY: Assists the Life Enrichment Supervisor in the implementation of recreational, leisure and therapeutic activities for residents with a special emphasis on residents who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and related dementia. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist residents in all levels of care as assigned, to participate in daily life enrichment activities in accordance with resident lifestyle preferences, assessment and service plan. Assists the Life Enrichment Supervisor in the planning of the activity calendar of activities for the memory care neighborhood, including on-going promotion, communication of activities, gathering of supplies, props and equipment necessary for the activity. Assist residents to participate in events and activities in the Willamette View community. Engages residents in on-going sensory stimulation appropriate for their individualized needs. Identifies the interests of residents and assists residents to engage in recreation and leisure activities they enjoy as well as encourage participation in new activities. Communicates needs of residents to staff as appropriate. Assists staff and residents to decorate the neighborhood according to the season or activities. Completes required documentation thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner. Works as a part of a team effort, accepting supervision, applying suggestions, organizing time and prioritizing multiple demands with a professional attitude in order to achieve optimum resident care. Follows department policies and procedures, including established safety and hazard reporting rules, and adheres to Willamette View privacy and security of information policies. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, maintaining a professional appearance in compliance with policies. Follows departmental reporting policies for absences. Completes daily duties as scheduled and completes non-scheduled duties as time allows. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • May serve as a representative for department on the safety committee or other ad hoc committees. QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM JOB SUCCESSFULLY: Requires imagination, creativity, and excellent interpersonal skills with the elderly population and people of different values and backgrounds.
Basic word processing skills necessary. Training in working with residents with dementia; training for communication skills in working with visually/hearing impaired, aphasic residents or other specific disabilities (stroke, CHF, etc.) and validation techniques are preferred. Valid Driver License required. SAFETY HAZARDS: Should use good body mechanics when performing duties of position.
If driving, is exposed to road traffic and conditions and should observe good defensive driving safety.
