Development and Fundraising Assistant, Nonprofit

National nonprofit advocacy group seeks extroverted and highly motivated individual to serve as a Fundraising and Development Associate. Under the Director of Development and an additional Program Director, the Associate will draft funding proposals, cultivate funding channels, and provide communications support.


Stewardship of Donors and Potential Donors (40%)

  • Together with senior staff, develops and implements a strategy for expanding support through prospecting and networking
  • Develops strategies for engaging existing and potential sponsors to keep target audience abreast of upcoming activities
  • Creates and maintains a robust donor calendar to plan communications; uses appropriate channels to disseminate information
  • Travels as a representative of the organization to meet with major donors up to three times a year
  • Maintains accurate donor databases

Grant and Proposal Writing (30%)

  • Supports the Program Director and Director of Development by researching, writing, and editing grant proposals
  • Prepares and submits grant materials according to application deadlines
  • Manages and streamlines grant tracking charts

Administrative Support (20%)

  • Works as a member of the team to produce a 4-day annual event focusing on partner and alumni recognition; travels to events as a representative of organization
  • Communicates with sponsors to secure donations and prizes for the event
  • Orders supplies from vendors as needed; tracks items received
  • Works with Executive Director to create and contact VIP guest list


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. An outgoing personality and willingness to engage new people are critical to success in this role
  • Attention to detail and a proven ability to work well under deadlines
  • Superior program and project management experience. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and complete work
  • Experience using CRM software
  • Proven ability to fund-raise on behalf of a nonprofit organization

Requirements and Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-5 years’ fundraising and donor management experience
  • Travel Expectation: 25%
