About the Position The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications is a 10-month, full-time position (cyclic) that has the primary responsibility in assisting to communicate the goals and brand of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, with the goals and vision in mind of Western Washington University. The position will help promote the athletic department through digital media, graphic design, social media, feature stories and media relations effort that share the stories of the 15 intercollegiate sports and over 300 student-athletes and coaches, with the goal of increasing public participation and support in local, state and national recognition of Viking Athletics. The position will also assist with event management pertaining to sports information, serve as a primary contact for programs and will be encouraged to make independent decisions when publicizing WWU Athletics.
+ Possession of a bachelor's degree.
+ Competent with computer technology related to sports information.
+ Ability to handle multiple tasks on deadline.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability and commitment to effectively working with faculty, staff and student athletes of diverse social identities and backgrounds
+ Possession of a bachelor's or master's degree in journalism, communications, sports management, marketing, public relations or closely related field.
+ Sports Information background, knowledge and experience.
+ Social and Digital Media knowledge as it pertains to promoting athletic programs.
+ Basic understanding of StatCrew applications or similar statistical tracking software.
+ Video editing and interview capability for digital media content.
+ Experience working with coaches and student-athletes.
+ Media Relations and Sports Marketing experience.
+ Knowledge of AP style.
+ Experience in video editing with Adobe Premier or similar software program.
+ Experience in graphic design.
+ Expressed commitment to NCAA legislation and compliance.
