Job Title: Peer Support Specialist 

Position Summary

Responsible for delivery of peer support services in a foster care or group home setting for adults with severe to moderate mental illness, or co-occurring disorders. Embrace, develop, and implement recovery based principals with clients, staff, agency, and the community. Peer support specialists must be willing to be open about their recovery status whether it is as a person in recovery or who have lived experiences of mental health and or substance use disorders. Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate sustained and stable recovery for a period of at least 2 years.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach and support the acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate the individual recovery process.

• Promote the knowledge of available service options and choices and the utilization of resources in the community

• Link client to appointments as outlined in the client treatment plan established with the interdisciplinary team

• Provide peer support services in a one-on-one or group setting

• Facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth which requires acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural and spiritual practices

• Ability to articulate personal recovery journey

• Provide coaching and support to assigned clients for recovery efforts leading to sustained and stable recovery

• Abide by the employee Code of Ethics, Policies, Procedures and Values set forth by Western Montana Mental Health Center

• Accurately complete personal daily time sheet and appropriate documentation and submit to supervisor in accordance with program policy

• Attend and participate in all required meetings and supervision unless excused by Supervisor.

• Advise the supervisor in advance of any possible or pending involvement in any personal legal proceedings.

• Complete all required client documentation to be in compliance with the State Standards and WMMHC Policies and Procedures

• Participate in treatment plan meetings for assigned clients

• Knowledge of Medication Assisted Treatment utilized for some substance use disorders

• Additional duties as assigned


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Certified by the Montana Board of Behavioral Health

• Must have personal experience with mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment and/or recovery

• Must demonstrate sustained and stable recovery for a period of at least 2 years


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), First Aid, CPR training required

• Ability to pass background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment.

• Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies.

• Current and valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Certified by the Montana Board of Behavioral Health

• Must have personal experience with mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment and/or recovery

• Must demonstrate sustained and stable recovery for a period of at least 2 years
