Afterschool Program Instructor

Position Summary

Provides afterschool opportunities for youth in eight Missoula County Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Under the umbrella of the Western Montana Mental Health Center, Flagship offers a school-based program in mentoring and skill building. The program focuses on four core components: academic achievement, health and wellness, art and culture, and pro-social development. Flagship afterschool programs are available at the following schools:

• Franklin, Hawthorne and Lowell elementary schools
• Meadow Hill, Washington and CS Porter middle schools
• Hellgate and Willard high schools

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Facilitate after school activities ranging from art, tutoring, recreation, science and more
• Be a positive role model and leader
• Maintain open communication with Flagship Youth Development Coordinator
• Help prepare materials for programs and put away supplies
• Prepare lesson plans and activities for after school programs
• Help maintain attendance records of students participating in the program
• Enter computer data for grant reports
• Maintain a safe and educational environment 
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
• Help manage day-to-day operations of programs, such as various office tasks and other duties as assigned (within reason)
• Additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with children (ages 5 – 18 is preferred)
• Behavior and classroom management experience (training provided)
• Experience working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
• Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the children and program
• Responsible and hard-working with good leadership and communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with children
• Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), First Aid, CPR training required 
• Ability to pass background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment. 
• Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies. 
• Current valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty
