Position Summary
Provides afterschool opportunities for youth in eight Missoula County Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Under the umbrella of the Western Montana Mental Health Center, Flagship offers a school-based program in mentoring and skill building. The program focuses on four core components: academic achievement, health and wellness, art and culture, and pro-social development. Flagship afterschool programs are available at the following schools:
- Franklin, Hawthorne and Lowell elementary schools
- Meadow Hill, Washington and CS Porter middle schools
- Hellgate and Willard high schools
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate after school activities ranging from art, tutoring, recreation, science and more
- Be a positive role model and leader
- Maintain open communication with Flagship Youth Development Coordinator
- Help prepare materials for programs and put away supplies
- Prepare lesson plans and activities for after school programs
- Help maintain attendance records of students participating in the program
- Enter computer data for grant reports
- Maintain a safe and educational environment
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
- Help manage day-to-day operations of programs, such as various office tasks and other duties as assigned (within reason)
- Additional duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children (ages 5 – 18 is preferred)
- Behavior and classroom management experience (training provided)
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the children and program
- Responsible and hard-working with good leadership and communication skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children
- Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), First Aid, CPR training required
- Ability to pass background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment.
- Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies.
- Current valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty
