POSITION SUMMARY 

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse provides medication clinics in Adult Mental Health Services. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for the provision of psychiatric treatment of SDMI clients of WMMHC. The APRN functions as an active member of a team serving adult clients with severe and disabling mental illness. The APRN is responsible for tasks of medication management and psychiatric oversight. The APRN provides training for staff and consultation for families and clients as appropriate and positively represents the Mental Health Center to the medical community 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide SDMI adult psychiatric/medication evaluations, prescription services, and medication education through routine medication clinics. 
  • Participate in Clinical Staffing meetings providing recommendations for treatment interventions and treatment plan implementations for current, new, and emergent cases 
  • Work in cooperation with all members of the treatment team; work in cooperation with other WMMHC employees to provide quality care for all clients 
  • Provide on-call psychiatric consultation for the Emergency Services System of the WMMHC, if required 
  • Develop therapeutic alliances, perform assessments, diagnoses and develop practical treatment approaches for and with consumers who are experiencing symptoms of serious emotional disturbance and severe and persistent mental illness  
  • Maintain appropriate and timely clinical records 
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc consultation and educations services to family members, consumers, and the community at large 
  • Participate in scheduled administrative staff meetings 
  • Promote services and initiatives that empower staff, consumers, and family members 
  • Commitment to the mission of WMMHC and adherence to the employee Code of Ethics, Policies, Procedures, and Values set forth by WMMHC 
  • Must be able to use the sense of sight and hearing in order to assess environmental and clients, and to ensure personal safety 
  • Works the scheduled FTE (Full Time Equivalency - example:  75%, 100%, etc.) Ability to work flexible hours 
  • Advise the Director and immediate Program Manager in advance of any possible or pending legal involvement related to services provided by Missoula Adult Services 
  • Effectively provide leadership, training, and consultation to a diverse group of professionals 
  • Ability to use basic computer programs and do documentation on a computer if necessary 
  • Additional duties as assigned 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution  
  • License to practice in the State of Montana and hold current certification as an APRN by ANCC or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing 
  • Extensive training or experience in community-based psychiatric treatment of individuals diagnosed with serious emotional disturbance and severe and persistent mental illness  
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of psychotropic medications and an understanding of crisis intervention and the use of hospital alternative services 
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution 
  • License to practice in the State of Montana and hold current certification as an APRN by ANCC or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing 
  • Completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training provided 
  • Ability to pass a background check and driver’s license check upon offer of employment. 
  • Provide proof of auto liability insurance coverage per Western’s policies. 
  • Montana Driver’s License with a good driving record if required to transport clients while on work duty
