POSITION TITLE:Chief Administrative Nurse (CAN)/Nurse Practitioner/APRN (with a psychiatric specialty)
This is a dual position.
1. First,the person in this position will be responsible for oversight of the medical components of the WestCare Nevada's system of care project with specific reference to the Community Triage Center. The position will insure that appropriate patient-centered evidence-based quality healthcare services are delivered to individuals and documented correctly and according to accreditation and best-practice standards. The CAN will provide medical leadership in the implementation of medical standardized operating procedures.
2. Second, the psychiatric APRN in this position will also work as part of a collaborative care team, responsible to assist with the assessment, treatment, evaluation and discharge planning services for individuals suffering from a range of acute and chronic substance abuse/addiction, with or without co-occurring mental/psychiatric and medical conditions. This position requires extensive knowledge of: the etiology of serious mental health and substance abuse disorders and developmental disabilities, their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology; nursing practice and medical evaluation, physical diseases and their treatment; community resources and networking techniques; and of psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
Administrative Duties:

  • Responsible for training, scheduling, and supervision of medical staff
  • Provide medical staff observation and supervision on a regular basis
  • Review each medical staff's job performance on a yearly basis (or more often if necessary) and hire or terminate employees with advice and consent from the Vice-President
  • Write and submit required reports and/or provide appropriate data for administrative and marketing needs
  • Responsible for facility compliance with health, fire and other regulatory standards in coordination with site-specific staff and regional leadership
  • Be on-call and available for emergencies
  • Insure that all required policies and procedures of WestCare are carried out
Psychiatric APRN Duties
  • Performs thorough psychiatric, behavioral, addiction, and medical assessments within the designated time frame; assigns appropriate diagnosis and initiate clinical management protocols specific to the client's specific behavioral health and medical needs
  • Conducts therapy, medication assessments, and crisis response to new and existing individuals
  • Develops individual treatment plans based upon assessment data, and provides therapeutic interventions as necessary including the provision of on-going medication management services
  • Provides consultation and health education to agency staff, caregivers and individuals served as it is relative to the treatment and medication needs
  • Provides special assessments of individuals awaiting discharge from state facilities, acute care hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and coordinated discharge planning with other agency and facility staff; and assists in diversion of persons from state facility placements through agency residential programs, outpatient treatment facilities and community service partners
  • Maintains documentation of services including service plans, progress notes, medication informed consent, quarterly treatment plan reviews, and other required information in compliance insurers, regulatory standards and measures
  • Consistently evaluates current clinical practice standards and provides updates to medical treatment protocols
  • Participates in practice related committees such as research and education initiatives
  • Participate in education sessions and performance improvement case reviews as scheduled by the supervisor
  • Able to work in a fast pace, 24 hour practice environment
  • Must complete assigned screening and outcome related reports in a in timely manner
  • Must be willing to supervise Masters Level Nursing students
  • Must be able to effectively utilize WestCare's Clinical Documentation System (electronic health record)
  • Supports the organizational polices and standards of practice
  • An unencumbered Licensure to practice in Nevada as a (PMHNP) Nurse Practitioner or a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist RN
  • Must have graduated from an accredited school with a Master's Degree in Nursing and must have a board certification as a PMHNP
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience with individuals who have serious mental health and/or substance use disorders; or a combination of licensure, education and experience demonstrating ability to effectively perform essential job functions
  • APRNs coming from other MSN tract must obtain certification as a PHMNP within a year of hire and must maintain required certification on personnel file
