Job Summary

The Graphic Designer is responsible for executing routine to moderately complex assignments pertaining to graphic production and presentation of instructional, informational, and promotional projects. Job responsibilities require the ability to work closely with clients in offering suggestions on color, size, design, format, and impact from concept to final execution and publication/dissemination. Work is performed under immediate supervision of the Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Management, working within brand guidelines or standard operating procedures. Decisions and problems faced in this position address non-routine questions and situations, often requiring investigation and/or research of precedents.


Essential Functions:

  • Protects the integrity of the brand by monitoring and encouraging compliance with brand standards.
  • Responsible for translating marketing objectives set by the Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Management into creative strategies to engage and influence target audiences.
  • Establishes, evaluates, and maintains creative and conceptual standards, setting and promoting design parameters and stylistic guidelines that are consistent with the University's brand strategy and reinforces messages and themes.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Management and marketing team, works
    with all University departments and offices to coordinate design projects from concept to completion.
  • Seeks to understand the desired outcome for the design and implements it in the most appropriate media.
  • Creates designs in a variety of mediums, including social media graphics, publications, brochures, displays, presentations, web graphics, and other print and digital visual communications.
  • Uses knowledge of several software applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and Canva to produce attractive designs within each medium’s individual technical specifications.
  • Assesses complex and challenging copy and data and devises the best ways to present it visually to enhance its
    clarity and impact.
  • Sources photos for social media posts, web features, marketing campaigns and other applications. Maintains
    digital assets. Participates in photo shoots as a photographer, as well as provides creative direction on photo
    shoots.
