JOB DESCRIPTION
West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC3) is currently seeking qualified candidate(s) to fulfill the position of a Plan Review Engineer or Senior Plans Examiner. This position has the primary role of reviewing drawings, calculations, soil reports, and other construction documents involving single-family, multi-family, and commercial construction to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, design standards, and structural requirements. As such, they are responsible for communicating orally and in writing to clients, applicants, and other staff. At times, candidates may prepare valuations for permit fees. It is expected that continual training will take place and applicants are encouraged to continue receiving additional International Code Council (ICC) certifications.
This position can be filled remotely while reporting to management operating from the Irvine Regional Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs complete and timely plan reviews of both simple and complex residential and commercial projects.
- Performs reviews of construction documents to determine compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Writes letters of deficiencies referencing the pertaining code from code books.
- Often communicates with project owners and design teams about deficiencies and solutions.
- Must keep accurate records and logs of plan review status and completion of projects.
- May occasionally visit construction sites to see different phases and methods of construction.
- Most work will be completed in an office setting, sitting, or standing for extended periods at a computer.
- It is encouraged to obtain ICC plan review certifications and continual education.
- Provide feedback on the growth and development of plan review and intake staff.
- Make special efforts to promote goodwill in the office.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Plan Review Engineers must have a 4-year degree in an engineering field with a state-issued Professional Civil (PE) license.
- Senior Plans Examiners must have a 4-year degree in an engineering or construction-related field or an equal number of years of construction work experience with a basic knowledge of construction methods.
- Must have at minimum five (5) years of commercial or residential plan review, or equivalent experience.
- Must have ICC Plans Examiner certification. Having additional ICC certifications is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electronics, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam software is preferred.
- Must possess proficient writing skills.
SALARY
- $86K - $120K, Annually, Depending on Experience
