The RN Bariatric Surgery Program Coordinator is a registered professional nurse with advanced clinical expertise who
functions under the direction of the Vice President, Patient Care Services. Role responsibilities include for the
development, implementation and maintenance of a site-based stroke program including assessment and treatment
of stroke patients, development of clinical practice guidelines to optimize patient outcomes, collection and analysis
of stroke data, monitoring compliance with stroke guidelines and program initiatives, performance improvement,
staff education, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
The RN Bariatric Program Coordinator serves as a clinical role model, educator, and liaison for the bariatric team, hospital staff and community and collaborates with
the medical director and nursig leadership to facilitate and promote improved patient outcomes.
Position reports to Surgical Service Administration but will work with patients post surgical once on floor as well as prior to procedure.
Required Minimum Education : Baccaleureate degree in nursing (BSN) required; Masters degree in nursing or
health care related field or enrollment in MSN program to be completed within 2 years required
Required Minimum Certification : National certification in bariatics is required or shall be attained within 2
years; current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia.
Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent, acute care clinical experience with demonstrated
teaching experience in the clinical and community setting; 5 years of bariatric experience; current American Heart
Association Basic Life Support credentials
Required Minimum Skills: Ability to read, write and speak the English language; Possesses advanced clinical
knowledge and skills; Strong analytical, investigative skills, program/protocol development and implementation
experience necessary Demonstrates knowledge of standards related to the field of practice, financial management
and concepts of interpersonal relationships; Strong customer service skills; Inter- and intra-departmental
coordination of patient care activities; Delegation skills required; Ability to multi-task essential; Ability to function in
stressful and emergency situations essential; Strong detail orientation required; Computer skills required; Personal
time management skills required; Adept as a change agent; Utilizes wide range of theories in managing complex
problems or problem resolution; Demonstrates expertise related to the following required: commitment to the
advancement of nursing practice and the nursing profession, interpersonal communication skills related to
knowledge of group/system dynamics, commitment to staff education and development; Knowledge of nursing
theory and research required; Compliance with the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics for Professional
Nurses is required; Demonstrates knowledge of and practices within parameters outlined in Georgia Registered
Professional Nurse Practice Act.
