The head teacher is responsible for the daily functioning of the assigned classroom at We Care Services for Children. This includes (but is not limited to) overall well being of children; staff supervision; health and safety issues; developmentally appropriate curriculum.



* Oversee a classroom of children with developmental delays as well as typically developing children
* Assist director/therapists in designing and implementing daily program
* Bring issues pertaining to training needs or program revision to the attention of the director
* Maintain and order routine supplies and equipment for assigned classroom

Staff Supervision:
* Provide direct supervision to assigned associates, interns and volunteers in the implementation of daily activities and agency procedures and policies in the areas of program and personnel
* Instruct and train program associates, interns, and volunteers in the treatment of the children
* Assign and monitor daily duties for associates, interns, and volunteers
* Be responsible for job performance reviews and evaluations for associates, interns and volunteers
* Supervise light housekeeping duties of associates

* Write clearly and concisely
* Record children’s progress every two weeks, turned in to therapists on a monthly basis
* Keep director/therapists informed and updated regarding changes in classroom, children and families
* Confer with parents on an as needed basis and write notes to parents
* Present information re: room curriculum, etc. at staff meetings, room team meetings, and teachers meeting
* Report observations of children’s progress at meetings
* Create & distribute weekly newsletter to families
* Chart parent contact (phone or face to face) when significant

Direct Service:
* Design and implement curriculum, activities, techniques, etc., to address children’s individual objectives
* Assist children in reaching their potential in all developmental areas (gross motor, social-emotional, self-help, fine motor, communication & cognitive)
* Monitor condition slips, check the condition of each child on a daily basis and, if needed, follow appropriate procedure for reporting
* Supervise children with daily self-help skills such as eating, toileting etc.
* Make annual home visit for each child and document, as appropriate
* Attend required meetings and training's

Health & Safety:
* Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the children including planning for emergencies
* Supervise the maintenance of assigned classroom and equipment to ensure maximum safety

* Able to lift, hold, and carry a 40 pound child
* Able to sit on floor with children
* Able to stand for periods of time
* Able to bend over or kneel to meet needs of children
* Able to run after a child if necessary
* Able to lift and move floor mats and portable equipment

* Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 2 years classroom experience
* Minimum 12 ECE units preferred
* Proficient writing skills
* Able to communicate with the children, staff, and families
* Demonstrate leadership abilities
* Able to function as a team member
* Good organizational skills
* Exhibit a genuine interest in children with developmental delays
* Maintain awareness of intervention techniques via workshops, conferences, articles, classes, etc. as requested
* First Aid and CPR certified
