Job Description

For 20 years, WaterTectonics has designed, manufactured, deployed, and serviced advanced water treatment systems for oil and gas, mining, industrial, and construction applications. Position Purpose

The position provides the following business value support in the following areas:

·         Technical Writer: Development of technical product documentation IO&M (Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual), work instructions, procedures and process documentation.

·         Document Control: Release engineering documents to the production floor as “Controlled Copies”. Log and track the controlled copies from issue to return. Review controlled copies for any red-lines and route to appropriate engineer for incorporation and or scanning and electronically filing.

·         Generate and maintain documentation templates and standards for documentation.

·         Review/assist others with documents such as white papers, proposals, specification sheets, etc.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

·         Researches, interviews, writes, and edits technical content for use in technical documents. Types of documents the position will be responsible for writing include, but are not limited to, end user manuals, product specifications, requirements, and specification and process documentation.

·         Determines the scope of work and level of effort to develop a timeline to support project planning.

·         Researches and gathers information to compose technical content. This includes interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) such as developers, programmers, and other technical personnel and reading internal technical documents to gather information.

·         Organizes, develops, and composes clear, concise, and readable technical documents that may include diagrams, flow charts, and graphics (HMI screens) that must be captured and sometimes manipulated to support content.

·         Submits outlines and drafts for review and schedules meetings with SMEs to obtain comments and actionable items from reviews to include in technical content.

·         Develops and delivers final documents that meet policy standards such as configuration management, copyright and trademarks laws, and safety and compliance requirements, as well as industry technical writing standards for grammar, punctuation, and sentence form and structure.

Functional, Technical & Personal Skill Requirements

Functional Skills

·         Experience working with word processing (Microsoft Word), Adobe, Photoshop and Visio.

·         Experience with industry technical writing style standards.

·         Intermediate ability to read and interpret customer documentation, specifications, schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams and drawings.

·         Hands-on operation of newly designed products to aid in the development of new IO&M manuals

·         Intermediate ability to perform a series of procedural steps, and detect and resolve errors.

Personal Skills

·         Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, presentation and analytical skills.

·         Strong SME interview skills to understand and document the operation of industrial water filtration systems.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

·         Pays attention to detail and is well organized.

·         Assertive with a positive outlook and a performance-oriented attitude.

·         Strong work ethic.

·         Ability to coordinate various work activities and function within tight time schedules.

Education & Experience

(Relevant work experience, education and specialized training required to successfully perform the job.)

·         5 - 7 years' experience in technical writing.

·         Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, or related field.

·         2 - 3 years' experience writing installation, operation and maintenance manuals, and technical documents for both hardware and software.
