This position is full-time and works 40 hours per week. Position hours are generally day shift but need to be aware that flexibility in start and end shift times may flex to cover both opening and closing clinics. If you have specific hour needs, please discuss that with our staff as most positions to require flexibility within the hours of 7am-6pm.
For example,a position of 8a-4:30pm may require opening the office at 7:30am a few days a month and twice a month until 6pm to close the office twice.

The department and location will be dependent on the qualified applicants preferences and current openings. Typically we place candidates in outpatient clinic locations in West County, Center for Advanced Medicine in the Central West End and the Center for Advanced Medicine in South County.

This is a sourcing requisition created by Human Resources to attract experienced non-credentialed MAs or Patient Care Techs in the workforce who would like to become certified/Registered Medical Assistants. _The one year apprenticeship will provide the education, mentorship, and on the job training to qualify for the NHA Medical Assistant exam and the path toward a professional career. _
Apprentices are paid for 40 work hours/per week but will work 36 hours in the department and spend 4 hours a week in MA Training for the first 10 weeks of employment. At that time, hire will sit for NHAs Certified Medical Assistant exam, pass and promote to a Registered/Certified Medical Assistant in On-The-Job Training for the remainder of the one year commitment. At completiion of one year, the Apprentice earns their journeyman status through the US Department of Labor for their participation in our Registered MA Apprenticeship Training program.
While completion of the program does not end your employment with the Washington University clinical department hired, you are open to transfer to another department within Washington University with your Journeyman Status. Apprentice must complete the one year of Apprenticeship training to be recognized nationally as graduating from an MA Program and receive permanent NHA certification.

We typically hire Medical Assistants to work the clinic back office where they room patients, document in electronic medical record, perform clinical skills associated with the specialty, perform blood draws, phone triage, schedule tests or order labwork, provide patients with follow-up instructions. We do have a few departments that strictly hire front office Medical Assistants and a couple of departments that primarily utilize their Medical Assistants phone triaging patient and office calls.
* High School diploma or GED * 2 plus years experience in a hospital or clinic setting * Strong typing and computer skills (testing will require 30 wpm) * Medical Assistant Exam with score of 50% or greater * Moderate Clinical Skills Assessment * High regard for attention to detail * Works well on a team and takes instruction well

Medical Assistant Apprentice (Patient Care Associate Trainee) will earn $14.00/hour during the first 10 weeks of employment. After passing NHA certification exam, Patient Care Associate Trainee will be promoted to Certified Medical Assistant and earn a pre-determined hourly wage commensurate with experience. Both Apprenticeship starting wage of $14/hr and pre-determined hourly wage (post passing exam) will be noted in the offer letter.
All external candidates receiving an offer for employment will be required to submit to pre-employment screening for this position. Current employees applying for a new position within the university may be subject to this requirement. The screenings will include a criminal background check and, as applicable for the position, other background checks, drug screen, employment and education or licensure/certification verification, physical examination, certain vaccinations and/or governmental registry checks. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of required screening.
