Budget Analyst Clinical Research

This Clinical Research Budget Analyst is responsible for the budget review and development of M3-Wake Research clinical trials to include thorough and efficient budget development and negotiation during trial start-up, as well as working with the Financial team for timely and accurate accounting of clinical trial revenue and expenses throughout the clinical trial. This individual will report to the Director of Finance and work as a member of the Financial team which will include, development of clinical trial budgets and negotiation of CTA financial terms, setup and operation of CTMS programs to track completeness of reimbursable study activities, setup of studies and review of charges to ensure routing of charges to appropriate payers, and management of subject stipends and reimbursements. This individual must be able to organize complex projects, provide attention to detail, and communicate effectively.
For clinical research studies involving services or procedures that generate billable clinical charges, this individual may be responsible for performing a comprehensive coverage analysis to determine the appropriate payer for all study-related charges. This individual frequently interacts with contract attorney and staff in the Site Start Office as well as external study sponsors, investigators, and research staff. This individual will work on cross- functional teams across WR to develop and refine systems and processes related to clinical trial finances; ensure effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards for staff/program and self; and maintain a working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations and the code of conduct for human research.
This individual will work directly with pharmaceutical company sponsors, institutional investigators, and research staff. The individual in this position performs complex work important to the organization and contributes to measurable team and/or organization objectives. Budget Development – Pre- and/or post-award financial management of WR clinical trials to include, reviewing research protocols and supporting documents to identify expenses, develop budget, and negotiate funding terms with study sponsor or funding agency.
Must be able to read and interpret complex clinical research protocols in order to identify study-related expenses and construct a research study budget. Works in partnership with investigators or their designees as well as administrative staff in other areas to ensure that the study budgets are developed and reviewed in an efficient, thorough manner, compliant with coverage guidelines, and adequate to cover study-related expenses. Frequently interacts with contract attorney to negotiate payment terms and facilitate contract execution.
Post-award financial management of industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials according to terms of funding agreements and in accordance with national regulations and local policies and guidelines. These functions necessitate in-depth knowledge of clinical trial terminology and workflows and technical proficiency to ensure compatibility of data structures, thereby enabling interface capabilities between clinical trial management and accounting systems. Responsibilities may include setup and operation of CTMS programs to track completeness of reimbursable study activities, setup of studies and review of charges in Partner systems to ensure routing of charges to appropriate payers, and management of subject stipends and reimbursements.
