Job Description

Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) is an independent group of 114 board-certified emergency medicine physicians and 86 physician assistants and nurse practitioners based in Raleigh, NC.  We provide an advanced, but supportive, learning-rich environment for providers in emergency medicine. WEPPA currently has a part time opportunity for a Point of Care Ultrasound Technician to join our team of healthcare professionals. 

Location:  WakeMed Raleigh Emergency Department

Qualifications:  RDMS or RDCS and minimum 1-2 years of clinical experience

Reporting to:  Wake Emergency Physicians (WEPPA) Ultrasound Director

Hours:  12 per week (two 6 hours shifts per week from 12P-6P, dates flexible). If candidate is a WakeMed employee, total work hours for WakeMed and WEPPA may not exceed 40 hours/week.

Salary:  $30-35 / hour depending on experience

Malpractice Coverage: WEPPA will cover the required malpractice insurance for this position and the candidate will be provided a Certificate of Insurance (COI).

Description:  Candidate will work closely with WEPPA Ultrasound Director to provide instruction and support to our emergency providers during their clinical shifts in the WakeMed Raleigh Adult and Children’s ED.  This would include entering patient information, setting up ultrasound machines at the bedside, and helping providers to obtain appropriate views at the point of care to improve clinical decision making in real time.

Primary responsibilities would be to assist with the following exams:

•  FAST exam (Focused Abdominal Sonography in Trauma)

•  Limited Echocardiography (cardiac activity, effusion, estimation of EF, chamber enlargement)

•  Central Access (Internal jugular and femoral vein)

•  Skin and soft tissue (abscess, cellulitis, foreign bodies in skin)

The goal of hiring an ultrasound technician is to increase the competency of our providers in performing their own point of care ultrasound exams.  Additionally, the technician will work to improve the familiarity of our providers with ultrasound machine technology and our imaging archive system, QPath.

The desired candidate is a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong interest in teaching.  Furthermore, candidate must possess superior sonography skills and a command of ultrasound machine technology.  It is recognized that additional training specific to point of care exams will be necessary.  This will be provided by the ultrasound director prior to the start of clinical shifts.
