Job Description

The Portfolio Risk & Data Analyst will turn data into information and information into actionable insights. These insights will be transformed into business strategies and recommendations via the development of critical portfolio reporting, which will empower senior and executive management to make better, more informed decisions. More specifically, this role will be responsible for the preparation of corporate portfolio reports, serving as the primary resource for creation and retrieval of source reporting and exhibits utilized within Risk White Papers. As necessary, analyze data utilized in corporate portfolio reports, providing insight into emerging trends, areas of concern, or data integrity issues, among other topics. Assist in the development of a robust corporate reporting framework, with an emphasis in Commercial, Small Business and Residential Lending portfolios and functions.

Key Result Areas

  • Work with the VP Senior Portfolio Risk Manager (“VP”) on establishing, designing, implementing and monitoring an enterprise-wide credit portfolio risk management reporting program required of a financial institution of the size and complexity of the Bank.

  • Work closely with the VP in the development and production of reports to identify and measure credit risks in the various loan portfolios by bringing together, analyzing, and interpreting disparate data and information from multiple internal and external sources.

  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics to ensure that the production of recurring reports is automated as much as reasonably possible and formatted for circulation to relevant stakeholders. Participate on analysis related or other project teams as appropriate.

  • Fulfill reasonable ad hoc requests including production and development of various analytical risk reports and studies on the various components of the loan portfolios, other business lines or corporate related activities.

  • As requested, assists in preparation of risk assessments or “white papers” for the various property types and other industries or asset classes that the lending division is lending into or might consider lending into, as well as potential other areas or business lines the Bank is considering that would require initial analysis and/or research.

  • Ensure data integrity standards are maintained and the system controls are reviewed and documented on a periodic basis. Identify core reliance factors and ensure that any scheduled updates consider the feeds used by the department during the planning, testing and scoping phases of an upgrade project.

  • Perform additional duties as required.


  • College degree, preferably in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent degree program.

  • 5+ years of quantitative analytical experience; exposure to underwriting, credit administration, commercial and corporate lending, or finance/treasury preferred.

  • Strong technical skills; advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills with ability to adapt to new systems.

  • Highly proficient in Tableau, SQL; R, Python, and Spotfire preferred.

  • Experience maintaining existing queries and generating new reports using SQL and Tableau.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to independently resolve errors and inconsistencies.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to review a situation from varied perspectives as well as a willingness to make judgment calls and decisions based on experience and reasonableness tests.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills, communication skills (both written and oral), business or report writing, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to collaborate within and across groups.

  • Ability to manage priorities of competing stakeholders.
