W.M. Keck Observatory of Kamuela, HI is currently hiring for a hard-working full-time Maintenance/Cleaning Specialist to join our custodial team. This Maintenance position works a full-time schedule and earns a competitive wage. We are a busy observatory and believe that hard work can also be fun.

As a Maintenance/Cleaning Specialist, you perform custodial and light maintenance to ensure a clean and safe working environment. According to a prescribed list of daily, weekly, or monthly duties, you prioritize and perform each duty to the best of your ability. You utilize the provided cleaning equipment and tools as you monitor all your assigned workspaces. Maintaining a small inventory of cleaning, bathroom, and kitchen items, you make sure that these items are available when needed. You clean rooms and change bed linens and bath towels, according to the occupancy schedule. As needed, you do laundry, move furniture or equipment, run errands, and drive company fleet vehicles. You also do some light maintenance work, support shipping or receiving, and respond to urgencies and emergencies. You feel good about providing essential cleaning services that keep our organization running seamlessly! If you can do this and meet the following requirements, apply today!

  • 2+ years of experience in custodial and light maintenance positions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Solid working knowledge of janitorial procedures, tools, or equipment as well as light maintenance
  • Valid driver's license and a clean abstract
  • Willingness to occasionally work nights or weekends
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements typical of this position
