Summary/Objective: The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties, while working closely with management, providing support in all functional areas of Human Resources. The HR Generalist may supervise HR Specialists, File Clerks, and Receptionist. May require overnight travel on average of 25% per year.
Essential Functions: Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment. Performs other duties as required and assigned. Employee Relations: 1) Employee complaint and ethics-line investigation. 2) Harassment training compliance. 3) Seasonal layoff administration. 4) Reasonable suspicion drug screening field support. 5) Recruiting compliance, strategies, and field support. 6) Progressive discipline field support. 7) Review all termination and receive completed term packets. 8) On-Boarding planning and updating. 9) Evaluates employee termination requests for potential liability and works with leadership towards alternative steps where there is litigation exposure. 10) Handles employee relations matters, such as alleged complaint and policy violation investigations and recommends resolution. 11) Approaches policy and procedure enforcement towards improving efficiency of the HR department and supporting the company’s mission, leadership, and employees. 12) Implementation of policies and procedures. 13) Provides guidance to leadership during seasonal layoffs. 14) Reviews applicant backgrounds and drug screen results for adjudication. 15) Facilitates employee HR training and development 16) Process unemployment insurance claims through Vendor. 17) Review and approve employee transfers, pay increases/decreases within matrix guidelines. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in management or Human Resources, 4-years multistate HR Generalist experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. An HR certification (e.g. PHR or SHRM-CP) is preferred. Skills and Abilities: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Windows. Requires using common sense judgment to plan and perform tasks, and carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to speak to groups of managers and employees. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as piece rates, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
