Deep Silver Volition has been creating wildly original and successful video games for over 25 years, including the fan-favorite Saints Row series. Our studio has prospered by making fun, innovative games no one else can make, while focusing on work-life balance and fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous growth, and learning.
We're looking for a Senior Technical Artist who can help us continually push the limits of next-gen open world gaming. As a Senior Technical Artist, you'll bridge the creative and technical aspects of AAA game development, developing tools, pipelines, and innovative strategies for efficient creation and integration of visual game assets.
This is a remote-friendly role. We are a hybrid work environment, headquartered in Champaign, IL but with employees working permanently remotely across the U.S. (We’re currently unable to hire in CA & NY, unfortunately.)
What you’ll do as Senior Technical Artist at Deep Silver Volition:
Design and assist in developing tools and workflows for Artists and Designers.
Proactively seek out inefficiencies and problems in existing pipelines, identifying creative solutions.
Improve and enhance tools and processes for real-time environments, vehicles, weapons, cinematics, characters, VFX, UI, and animation, throughout the project cycle.
Collaborate with Programmers and Designers in researching and optimizing new tools for game features.
Collaborate with other Technical Artists to ensure consistent technology, standards, and content creation.
Prototype new techniques to facilitate more efficient content production.
What we’re looking for:
5+ years of AAA technical video game experience.
Comfort with at least one common scripting language (e.g. Python).
Fluent knowledge of at least one major 3D software package (3ds Max, Maya, Houdini, Blender).
Demonstrated understanding of the open-world gaming experience.
Positive, professional attitude. Disciplined and self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Being collaborative and having a team-oriented mindset is a requirement.
Ability to identify complex problems and propose solutions while working within real-time technical restrictions.
Proactive in seeking feedback and resolving issues.
Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and be flexible about changing role requirements.
Passion for games and ability to articulate the pursuit of that passion as a career clearly and analytically. A broad knowledge base of console games.
Experience developing tools for real-time in two or more of the following art disciplines including environments, vehicle, weapons, cinematics, characters, VFX, UI, and animation, etc.
Pluses:
Code samples, or examples of tools/pipelines developed to overcome past challenges.
Encouraged but not required: Art portfolio demonstrating proficiency and talent with both CG and traditional art skills.
Some of our benefits:
- Subsidized medical/dental/vision insurance through BCBS & Guardian
- 100% company-paid life, short-term, & long-term disability insurance
- Generous paid time off (including parental leave and an annual company shutdown between Christmas & New Year's)
- 401k with company contribution
- Annual learning & development budget + access to GDC Vault & LinkedIn Learning
- Paid subscriptions to Headspace, Doordash, Sworkit, and other wellness apps
- Annual competitive games allowance
At Deep Silver Volition we believe in fostering an open, collaborative, and diverse environment, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We will consider all qualified applicants without attention to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic information, disability, age, veteran status, or military status.
