The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs delegated clinical and administrative duties within the supervising physician’s scope of practice consistent with the CNA’s education, training, and demonstrated competency. This includes taking and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms, preparing instruments and scopes for sterilization, transporting items to the sterile processing department, and assist providers when instructed. The CNA recognizes and addresses age-appropriate needs when caring for patients. In addition, the CNA assists in maintaining the practice environment in a clean, orderly condition. Functions as an integral member of the Department by contributing to new ideas for improving customer service and reducing costs. The CNA will be flexible and able to float to all divisions in Otolaryngology when needed. Provides high quality customer service to both external and internal customers that meet or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, flexible coverage of internal service needs and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills for office services.
1 Patient Care. Assists in rooming process by recording patient's name, address, phone number, age, and other personal information; takes and records vital signs such as blood pressure, height, weight, and temperature; assists physician or nurse with treatment or examination by passing instruments, applying or removing bandages and dressings; observes and reports changes in patient's conditions.
2 Facility Maintenance. Unlocks doors at start of day; locks doors at end of day; removes used and un-sterile supplies and instruments from examination or treatment rooms; stocks rooms with sterile supplies and instruments; washes instruments and scopes to prepare to send to central SPD for sterilization; cleans examination rooms with disinfectant; troubleshoots equipment for malfunctions; takes inventory of supplies, equipment, and instruments; orders supplies.
3 Miscellaneous. Answers phones and responds to non-medical questions; files and retrieves patient's records; runs errands such as delivering specimens to labs, picking up x-rays or lab reports, or picking up medication at pharmacy; transports clean and dirty equipment and scopes to and from sterile processing; trains new aides.
Required: High School diploma or GED.
Preferred: At least 6 months working as a CNA directly in a medical office/clinical setting.
Preferred: At least 6 months experience working with an electronic medical record.
Required: Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Required: Exceptional customer service skills – both in person and on the telephone.
Required: Exceptional interpersonal skills- able to resolve conflicts and problem solve between parties.
Required: Ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize workload, meet deadlines and meet urgent patient, physician and system needs
Required: Ability to work accurately and without constant supervision.
Required: Oregon CNA License with CNA2 Certification.
Required: Current BLS Certification.
