Job Title: Lab Associate

Job Summary:

The Testing Services Lab Associate I is responsible for performing all laboratory activities necessary for virology and microbiology testing according to applicable regulations and cGLP including 9CFR, Eur. Ph., USPISO 9001 and ISO 17025. This includes, but is not limited to, handling of test articles, working with cell cultures, performance of Mycoplasma and sterility testing, and collaboration with Laboratory Manager and Study Director(s) to maintain high quality of testing. This position is responsible for preparing and reading FA slides, microbiological agar observations, reporting results, and becoming familiar with the different types of organisms (viral, bacterial, and fungal) used and detected by Testing Services. The Testing Services Lab Associate I is knowledgeable in all applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and maintain proficiency in following laboratory SOPs and performing assigned virology and microbiology assays including but not limited to:
    • Aseptic technique
    • Conduct of compendial testing including TA preparation, inoculation, and sub-culturing
    • Perform organism inoculation and other tasks in a BL2 laboratory
    • Produce media and other laboratory reagents
    • Establish cell and organism stocks, maintain cell lines, manage/generate microbiological working seeds
  • Assist in training of new personnel
  • Perform all regulatory testing
  • Participate in assay verifications and validations
  • Review and update SOP's as needed
  • Perform all laboratory assistant and technician duties, as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good verbal and information technology skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment
  • Basic understanding/awareness of cGLP, ISO 17025, ISO 9001

Desired Qualifications and Experiences:
  • 2+ years related experience
  • Excellent oral, written, problem solving and technical skills
  • Word, Excel proficiency

Education, Licenses and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a related discipline
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Physical Requirements for the Job:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 40% of the time. (Standing and/or sitting)
  • May be asked to move up to 40lbs

Pay Range Data:
  • We anticipate filling this position of Lab Associate at an hourly rate between $21.00 and $25.00 per hour. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job responsibility and regional benchmarks. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills. The range listed is just one component of VMRD's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include bonuses.
