Job Title: Quality Engineer (Biotechnology)

Type: FT, Non-Exempt

Department: Quality

Job Summary:

The Quality Engineer will provide experienced support to all divisions within VMRD, with an emphasis on Quality Assurance for Testing Services and supporting the Quality Control Lab. The Quality Engineer will collaborate with managers, leaders, and employees to incorporate quality measures into VMRD's Quality Management System (QMS), and lead efforts to identify and improve on quality efforts across the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer or improve the QMS process to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 17025:2017, GLP/21 CFR, 9 CFR, and internal standards
  • Support the Testing Services division with report review/release, audits of LIMS activities, and improvements to internal processes
  • Champion problem-solving and root cause analysis activities
  • Conduct internal audits
  • Coordinate and host on site client and regulatory/standard agency audits
  • Analyze data to identify trends in product quality or defects with a goal of mitigating and preventing recurrence and future defects
  • Assist/Support Quality Control by fulfilling job duties represented within the QC Manager position
  • Manage physical and electronic documents and records related to document control, equipment maintenance, and training
  • Create/maintain written documentation of the responsibilities and procedures applicable to QA/QC functions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and leadership teams toward achieving business objectives and financial targets by addressing/improving Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth
  • Assist with other duties as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of USDA-CVB, GLP, 9CFR Part 113, and other applicable regulatory bodies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and adaptability to other software

Desired Qualifications and Experiences:

  • 5+ years of experience with quality roles, auditing, improvement efforts, and/or administering a QMS in a regulated industry
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with others to make timely, effective decisions
  • Experience with QT9™ QMS software and laboratory information management software systems

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences preferred or 2+ years of equivalent experience
  • Experience working within a diagnostic laboratory setting

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Salary Range: $29.33 - 43.08 per hour

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the VMRD salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on verified experience and results. Our salary ranges are benchmarked for the eastern Washington region and similar positions. The range listed is just one component of VMRD's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include bonuses.
