Job Description

Viterbo University College of Engineering, Letters, and Sciences invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track assistant professor in Organic Chemistry beginning August 2022. Primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate lecture and laboratory coursework in introductory and advanced organic chemistry, as well as chemistry coursework for nursing, health science and natural science majors in an ASBMB accredited program.


This faculty will be responsible for student-centered teaching, in organic chemistry lecture and laboratory sequence to science and pre-health professional students. Other teaching responsibilities may include general chemistry, medically related chemistry courses, and/or advanced courses in their area of specialization. Viterbo University has a strong undergraduate research program in the Natural Sciences and seeks a candidate with the ability to guide and mentor students in a sustainable (in scope and expense) research program. The successful candidate will maintain a scholarship habit, advise natural science majors, and aid in recruiting students pursuing pre-health, biochemistry and related degrees. A willingness to serve on department and university committees and working groups is important. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in organic chemistry or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with previous experience teaching college chemistry preferred. Favorable consideration will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience. Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track position.

Rank and Salary: Appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor with a nine-month academic year appointment beginning August of 2022. Salary is competitive with other private institutions of similar size, mission, and educational philosophy.
