Northern Region ( Fairfax, Loudon, Manassas, Quantico, Springfield). The Veterans Service Representative/Assistant Regional Manager assists veterans and their dependents in the preparation, presentation and prosecution of all lawful claims for benefits to which they are entitled throughout the Central Region. Educate veterans and dependents on the services and benefits offered by Virginia and the federal government. Travels extensively throughout the region providing such support. Conduct outreach to promote Virginia Department Veteran Services.
Assists Regional Manager with Supervisory duties, constituent inquiries, performance and training of assigned personnel. Performs the duties of regional manager in the absence of the assigned manager. Assists in special projects or duties as assigned by the Director or Regional Director. Assists Veteran Service Representatives with claims tracking, use Veteran Claims Database Systems to assist veteran Service representatives in identifying and correcting errors during the quality review phase of claims submissions.
Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations and apply to casework. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Experience in Public speaking. Extensive travel at government expense. Experience training, mentoring and coaching personnel.
Applicants' knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to veterans benefits is preferred. Must be eligible for accreditation to represent veterans before the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Graduation from accredited college or university with significant course work in law and counseling is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for the education requirement.
The selected candidate for this position will be required to remain in this position 12- months after accreditation which typically takes 3-4 months.
Writing samples may be completed at the second interview.
