Job Duties

The Deputy Clerk, Payments (grade 8) within the Fairfax County General District Court's
The payment team provides you with the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operations of an urban court and the Virginia judicial process. Must be committed to providing excellent customer service to a diverse population, enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-volume office with tight deadlines, and thrive in a results-oriented, teamwork environment.

All employees receive a 15% county salary supplement in addition to the state salary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Deputy Clerk in this position is responsible for a wide range of clerical responsibilities including, but not limited to, accepting payments on prepaid and unpaid cases; issuing DC-30 reinstatement forms; updating case information in the court's case management and financial systems; completing amended abstracts for the Division of Motor Vehicles; processing and
sorting mail; receipting case papers and preparing daily deposits. The clerk will also be responsible for processing garnishment payments; verifying and auditing fines and costs assessments; performing data entry; producing court correspondence; answering phone inquiries; filing and archiving. More than half of an employee's time is spent serving the public at a counter window and/or over the phone. This position also requires the performance of other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Applicants must be detail-oriented, highly accurate, and organized. Should be excellent at multi-tasking and follow-up, as well as have the ability to learn new tasks quickly. Must be willing to assist the public in a courteous and efficient manner and be a team player who assists others. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. A minimum data entry speed of 30 w.p.m. is required, and cashiering experience is highly desirable. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Special Requirements - Applicants must pass a criminal background check in order to be considered for employment

Physical Requirements - Lifting and bending to retrieve and file case paperwork.

Additional Considerations

Most competitive applicants will have some court, business, or office-related experience.
