Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic 1 is responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment, piping systems, valves, and machinery associated with the Company’s operation facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 reports to the Maintenance Manager. This is a full-time hourly position and is located in Baltimore, Maryland.
Responsibilities
1. Maintain safe working conditions in accordance with established Company policies
2. Identify, report and/or correct unsafe work environments and work with Stationary Engineer
3. Participates in on-scene work taking direction from the Maintenance Manager and other managers as needed
4. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing and leading complex preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting more advanced malfunctions.
5. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
6. Utilizing online training program to maintain technical knowledge
7. Accomplish high quality position and shop welds.
8. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
9. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
11. Exercise caution in the use and maintenance of all company equipment
12. Once trained, operate facilities as backup to the Stationary Engineer as assigned
13. Must be able to work overtime as required
14. Takes rotating, on-call (beeper) on weekends, back shifts, and holidays
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
1. HS Diploma or GED
2. Minimum 4 years’ experience in steam plant operations and maintenance or related experience
3. Ability to obtain 6G Certification within 6 months of hire
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
5. Must demonstrate initiative and judgment
6. Ability to work with minimum supervision
7. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of boiler plant operations
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Valid Md 1st Grade Stationary Engineers License
2. 6G Welding Certification
Physical Requirements
1. Ability to lift and maneuver up to and including 50 pounds
2. Ability to work in confined spaces such as boilers, tanks and manholes
3. Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test
4. Ability to tolerate heat in an industrial production plant environment
5. Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurable by Company’s vehicle insurance carrier
