Job Description

In a Nutshell: Responsible and accountable for the timely and accurate underwriting of mortgage loans. Provides effective communication to all Mortgage Service Officers, VP of Mortgage Operations, Chief Lending Officer and Mortgage staff to ensure successful fulfillment of policy and procedure initiatives.

The Nitty Gritty

Financial Analysis: Responsible for analyzing and interpreting various financial and credit documentation at a high level of accuracy. Able to perform in-depth evaluation of the creditworthiness of Borrowers which includes, but is not limited to, the review of tax returns, asset statements, bank account statements, and credit reports.

Ongoing Training: Maintains a working knowledge of all current investor guidelines for products to ensure loans meet the requirements of secondary market investors. Remain up to date on regulatory changes and Vibrant’s internal lending policy as well as attend ongoing investor guideline training. Reviews the Quality Control audits with timely responses and proactively identifies breaks in the underwriting process that may lead to audit exceptions.

File Completeness/Accuracy: Ensures mortgage loan file documentation meets investor requirements in preparation for secondary market sale. Underwrite files requiring PMI in adherence to PMI guidelines. Review of mortgage files to ensure all applicable documentation has been obtained and completed thoroughly.

Mentor/Coach: Performs second level review on loans that a less experienced underwriter recommends for denial to determine if there is another product available for loan applicant. Assist with underwriting training and provides guidance throughout the mortgage department which includes Mortgage Service Officers, Underwriters, and Processors or other staff as directed by the VP of Mortgage Operations.

Collaboration: Provide exceptional service and assistance as needed to Mortgage Service Officers, Processors, VP of Mortgage Operations, and Chief Lending Officer to ensure department production requirements are met.

Do you have what it takes?

  1. Minimum BS/BA degree with at least 3 years of experience and proven track record in mortgage underwriting and/or 3+ years experience in mortgage processing.

  2. Decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve safety and soundness of mortgage underwriting.

  3. Ability to research, read and correctly apply company guidelines.

Must have the ability to make critical decisions and prioritize key objectives. This individual should also possess excellent verbal communication skills and mathematical reasoning ability. They must understand all Vibrant Credit Union products and services. It is essential that this individual understand and abide by the strict confidentiality policies that are necessary in any financial institution.
