Job Description

The CRN's primary responsibility will be to coordinate and manage all activities associated with the initiation, conduct and completion of assigned clinical trials. The CRN will assist with the day to day study conduct, supporting Principal Investigators while working closely with  members of the multi disciplinary  research team to screen, enroll and follow Veteran study participants, collect and enter data and perform protocol procedures as assigned. The CRN is also responsible for maintaining all data and source documents and adverse event reporting.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 -4 years experience in conducting clinical research/trials. Certification in clinical research is strongly recommended but not required. We will assist in facilitating acquisition and maintenance  of the certification upon eligibility. 

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals of all levels is required. Candidate must be well organized with excellent oral and written communication skills and must be able to multi task and juggle numerous projects at a time.

This is a full-time permanent position located in the University Drive ( Oakland) campus of the VA Pittsburgh.  Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Salary will be based on education and experience in the field of clinical research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

a. Screens all potential and physician-referred patients for protocol eligibility. Maintains and submits monthly screening logs.

b. Presents trial concepts and details to the patients and participates in the informed consent process under the direction of the physician.

c. Documents informed consent process and all components of protocol treatment. Participates in ongoing patient education. Coordinates scheduling of tests and treatments required for the protocol.

d. Assesses patients for changes in condition, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance, response to study drug, and thoroughly documents all findings.

e. Completes assessments and study procedures as delegated by PI and per protocol requirements.

f. Administer investigational medications as delegated by PI and per protocol requirements.

g. Obtain, coordinate, process and ship subject blood samples, cultures, tissues, and other specimens for laboratory analysis as described in study protocol. Assist research phlebotomist when necessary.

h. Provide training and direction to new personnel and affected service lines on protocol procedures.

i. Provide cross coverage for trials assigned to other clinical coordinators as directed by direct supervisor.

j. Works directly with the physician/investigator and clinic staff to ensure protocol compliance.

k. Ensures accurate and timely completion of data collection and entry in accordance with protocol.

l. Coordinates research drug procurement and accountability records.

m. Coordinates, participates in and supports all site auditing and monitoring visits

n. Actively participates in protocol initiations and study specific educational programs. Communicates and collaborates on an ongoing basis with various hospital service lines.

o. Provides a safe environment for patients, families, and clinical staff at all times through compliance with all federal, state, and professional regulatory standards. Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicable law.

p. Comply with local education requirements.
